On iPropertyRadio this week…
*Protecting Construction's Most Critical Asset*
On ‘Breaking Ground’ on iPropertyRadio.com this week, host Carol Tallon chats to Bill Hill, CEO of Lighthouse Club "The Construction Industry Charity", to discuss the skill shortage in the construction industry and the importance of improving the wellbeing of the current workforce, including implementing long-term plans to change the culture within construction.
Did you know that construction has the highest number of occupational cancer cases and that over 20% of recorded absence is due to stress, anxiety or depression? Our industry is male-dominated with little diversity and heavily skewed towards the over 40s.
The most shocking takeaway from the podcast was that every working day in the UK and Ireland, we are losing two construction workers to suicide. This is a heartbreaking statistic, and we need to take action to support our workers.
That's where the Lighthouse charity comes in. Their vision is that "no construction worker or their family should be alone in a crisis." They offer free 24/7 support services to any construction worker or their family in crisis. The charity receives no public funding and relies on the generosity of the industry to help them support our workforce.
Let's work together to improve the construction industry and support our workers. Check out the Lighthouse charity to learn more about how you can help.
