June 26, 2024Baste Your Story TogetherI spent the last two days sewing a new swimsuit. This is how much thread I needed to put in and then pull back out of the suit. But NONE of this thread was mistake thread. Not a single seam that was sewn wrong and had to be picked out.Instead, this thread was VITAL to being able to construct the swimsuit...but only until the suit was done. At that point, this thread was not only no longer needed but would cause issues when I wear the suit.We sometimes think that any work we do that doesn't end up in the final product is a mistake. A failure. But sometimes the work is crucial, even if you're the only one who will ever know it happened.Sometimes, you need to pull a few (or many!) basting stitches before the garment is ready for the world.
