The Carthage Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 13-year-old girl.

Jaliyah Hines is a 13-year-old black female and was last seen on Friday, July 18, at her home in Carthage. She was last seen wearing a red t-shirt and brown leopard-print shorts. A photo of Jaliyah is not available.

Anyone with information about Jaliyah’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Carthage Police Department at 601-267-8011.

SALLIS, Miss.–A one-car wreck was reported Saturday morning near Sallis.

The 911 call came in about 8:15 a.m. and Attala County firefighters and deputies were sent to Attala Rd. 4101.

The person told deputies she was not hurt, but just scared after hitting a tree. An ambulance was sent as a precaution.

The 911 call came in at 9:07 p.m.

When firefighters arrived they reported smoke and flames coming from all sides of the house. They also reported seeing sparks from electrical connections to the house and Entergy was notified.

It was not believed that anyone was inside the house.

Attala County deputies were also sent to the house for traffic and crowd control. An ambulance was also sent to standby in case of injuries.

The fire was reported out just before 10 p.m.

The State Health Department says Mississippi now has five confirmed cases of an intestinal illness which has been at the center of a multi-state outbreak in recent weeks.  And at least one of those cases of cyclosporiasis is in the public health district which includes Attala, Holmes, Carroll and Montgomery counties along with much of the Delta.   The Health Department won’t say which county it is.   Other cases have been confirmed in health districts which include the Jackson area, the Pine Belt and the coast.   The Health Department can’t say if this is an unusual number of cases because this illness has never been tracked before in this state.   Medical providers across Mississippi have been alerted to watch for patients exhibiting symptoms of cyclosporiasis.

According to the Health Department:

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. Infection occurs after a person consumes food or water contaminated with the parasite.

Most U.S. outbreaks have been linked to fresh produce, including leafy greens, herbs and berries. Illness is not usually spread from person to person.

At this time, none of Mississippi’s reported cases have been linked to the multistate outbreak under investigation by the CDC.

Symptoms typically begin about one week after exposure, but can begin anywhere from two to 14 days after exposure. Symptoms range from mild to severe; some infected people may have no symptoms.

Because Cyclospora parasites can adhere tightly to produce, routine washing may reduce but does not completely eliminate the risk of infection. Cooking foods thoroughly kills the parasite.

Boswell Media Sports commentators Breck Riley (Kosciusko/Holmes CC) and Cooper Sanders (Leake Academy) attended the 4th annual Sportscasters Kickoff Gathering Thursday at the WFCA Radio Lounge on the campus of French Camp Academy.

Broadcasters from all across the state gathered for the annual event, which featured panel discussions, meet-and-greets, and door prizes over lunch. Once again, WFCA’s Jason Crowder served as the emcee for the afternoon.

This year’s keynote speaker was longtime “Voice of Mississippi State Baseball” Jim Ellis. Ellis shared insights and stories from his legendary broadcasting career, which spans over four decades covering Bulldogs sports.

Following his address, the event featured interactive panel discussions with prominent play-by-play voices from several of Mississippi’s universities.
