Storms could be moving into this part of central Mississippi tonight and developing again on Sunday.  There’s a Level-1 “marginal” risk of isolated severe storms with damaging wind gusts.  The National Weather Service says heavy downpours and frequent lightning will also be possible.  Rain chances will continue next week at least through Wednesday.

With the storms not expected to arrive until the evening hours today, temperatures will climb into the mid 90s resulting in another day of heat stress.  In most local areas, the heat index this afternoon should stay below 105 degrees but in western Mississippi it could reach 110.   After today, though, rain and clouds should keep high temperatures from going above the upper 80s for several days.

Breezy 103.7 (WLIN-FM), Boswell Media’s adult contemporary station serving Kosciusko, Attala County, and central Mississippi, is celebrating its first anniversary on the 103.7 FM frequency this weekend.

The milestone marks one year since Breezy officially transitioned from 101.1 FM to 103.7 FM on July 11, 2025, a move designed to strengthen the station’s signal and significantly expand its broadcast reach across central Mississippi.

The frequency change was necessary after it was determined that increasing power on 101.1 FM would create interference with stations operating on adjacent frequencies. Moving to 103.7 FM allowed Breezy to increase its broadcasting power while avoiding those limitations.

As a result, Breezy 103.7 now reaches a potential audience of more than 60,000 listeners—more than double its previous coverage area of just over 27,000.

“The move to 103.7 FM was an important step forward for us,” said Johnny Boswell, Owner and CEO of Boswell Media. “It strengthened our signal, but more importantly, it allowed us to expand our reach while continuing to serve our communities with the local news, weather, and music they rely on every day.”

Since making the transition, Breezy 103.7 has continued to build on its tradition of community-focused broadcasting while also delivering several major sports and news milestones for Boswell Media.

Among the highlights was Boswell Media Sports’ first-ever radio broadcast of the Ethel Lady Tigers’ appearance in the 1A State Championship game, a coverage effort that later earned a Mississippi Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Award for Continuing Coverage.

Breezy 103.7 also carried Kosciusko High School’s run to the 4A State Championship game—the Whippets’ first appearance in a state title game since 1996. The accompanying radio feature story, “Kosciusko’s Big Game Sendoff,” which included game coverage, interviews, and audio from former players, coaches, and families sending well wishes, earned a Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Award for Best Sports Story.

In addition, Boswell Media’s Chris Davis was recognized with a first-place MAB Award for Best Radio Reporter/Anchor for his work across sports and news coverage.

Beyond sports, Boswell Media and Breezy 103.7 also continued their strong commitment to community service through multiple Make-A-Wish Mississippi radiothons. Across all stations, those efforts helped raise more than $28,000 for children and families in need, with the Breezy 103.7 radiothon on October 10 leading all participating stations in fundraising totals.

Local storm recovery efforts are getting a major financial boost. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved $310,000 for Carroll County to help cover the costs of emergency protective measures taken during recent disasters.

The funding is part of a larger, state-wide rollout announced by FEMA this week, which includes more than $9 million distributed across 14 recovery projects in Mississippi. Much of the state’s funding is tied to response efforts from the severe winter storm that crippled the region in January 2026.

The reimbursement comes through FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which provides federal grants to state and local governments so communities can quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies.

Other neighboring areas in North-Central Mississippi also secured chunks of the $9 million package. Winona received $634,000 for debris removal, while Yalobusha County was approved for $965,000 to tackle its own cleanup efforts.

The City of Kosciusko is moving forward with the installation of two emergency backup generators after receiving approval for a FEMA-funded grant.

Mayor Tim Kyle said the city originally applied for the grant approximately two years ago through the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).

One generator will be installed at City Hall, while the second will be located at the city’s wastewater lagoon.

Kyle said the lagoon generator will be mounted on a trailer, allowing city crews to move it throughout town to power sewer lift stations during extended power outages.

The Board approved advertising for electricians to install the generators and also contracted with Central Bidding to conduct the required reverse auction process for purchasing the equipment.

The approximately $300,000 project will be largely funded through federal grant dollars.

The Attala County Chancery Clerk’s Office is reminding property owners with delinquent taxes to take action as soon as possible to avoid additional fees and the potential loss of property.

The office announced Thursday, July 9, that courtesy cards have been mailed to property owners regarding unpaid delinquent taxes. The notices are being sent to advise property owners that taxes listed as delinquent should be paid as soon as possible to remove the risk of losing property due to non-payment.

The mailed cards include property information, including the parcel number, owner information, and address associated with the property. The notice states that courthouse records indicate the recipient has property for which taxes “have not been paid” and encourages anyone receiving a card to contact the Chancery Clerk’s Office immediately. Residents who are no longer the current owner of the property are asked to notify the office.

According to the Chancery Clerk’s Office, additional fees connected to the 2024 tax year will be added in the upcoming months. Those fees include research fees, sheriff notice fees, and certified letter fees.
