Kosciusko baseball placed three players on the MAC Class 4A All-State teams after a season that ended in the 4A North State Championship Series.

Junior pitcher J.D. Cummins earned First Team honors, finishing the season with a 2.00 ERA in 42 innings, striking out 75 batters while allowing just 22 hits.

Senior utility player Aiden Howard also made First Team after a strong two-way season. At the plate he hit .366 with a 1.086 OPS, 4 HR, 33 RBI, and 43 runs. On the mound, he added a 2.17 ERA in 19.1 innings and 22 strikeouts.

Senior pitcher Braxton Smith earned Second Team honors after a dominant year on the mound, posting a 1.54 ERA over 45.1 innings with 74 strikeouts.

The trio helped lead Kosciusko through a strong postseason run that ended in the 4A North State Championship Series, marking a standout year for the program.

Expect a few more rainy days in Mississippi. The eastern part of the state got the worst of it again Tuesday after some major flash flooding in the Pine Belt on Monday.  The National Weather Service in Jackson says the flooding threat could be spreading into other parts of the state today.

Any heavy downpours or rain falling on saturated ground could trigger localized flash flooding through Friday across Mississippi.

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–A man called police to report being followed by an aggressive dog Saturday night.

That happened about 11:40 P.M. on Hickory Hill Dr. near the intersection with Walnut Grove Rd. The dog was reported to be a possible mix of a shepherd and a doberman.

While police did not find the dog, they did find the man walking the street with mace looking for the dog.

That man went home. He was not attcked and was not hurt.

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–A tree was reported down across both lanes of Hwy. 14 near the intersection with Hwy. 19 Saturday afternoon.

That was called in by a volunteer firefighter just after 4 p.m.

The Mississippi Dept. of Transportation was called to go and remove the tree. Meanwhile, the volunteer was able to clear much of it using his tractor.

MDOT was eventually turned around and the road was clear by 4:30.

Another tree was reported down, this time across Attala rd. 4121. That was reported around 7 p.m.

That was found to be a large pine tree that required a saw and some equipment to push it out of the road.

The National Weather Service has posted a Level-1 “marginal” risk of isolated severe storms in eastern parts of this area today with damaging winds possible.  And NWS says a brief tornado or two can’t be ruled out.  Heavy rain is also possible areawide with the threat of localized flash flooding through tomorrow.

Wednesday, June 24, beginning at 9:50 a.m., two candidates for U.S. Senate running against Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smoth will speak. Ty Pinkins, running as an Independent, is up first, to be followed by Democrat Scott Colom.

LOUISVILLE, Miss.–Receiving a package in the mail containing fentanyl in pill form has earned 39-year-old Medford Eiland, of Louisville, a stay in federal prison.

Eiland was sentenced last week to four years and five months for taking delivery of a package containing 500 fentanyl pills from Arizona. Eiland was unaware the package had already been intercepted by a U.S. postal inspector.

The inspector and other law enforcement officers then tracked the package to Eiland and arrested him when he got it in the mail in March of 2022.

Eiland must also serve five years on probation when he gets out of prison.
