The KJHS ShowStoppers will present the play “Mall Madness” on Saturday, May 23, at 6 p.m. at the Skipworth Performing Arts Center located at the Kosciusko Jr. High School. Admission is $5. Children ages 3 and under get in free.

Kosciusko High School will be hosting their first musical in over 20 years: Route 66. The play takes place in an Arizona diner in the 1950s, and there are several different stories that take place throughout it.

The idea of a musical came up when Shelby Long stepped in as a long-term substitute for the choir class after spring break. She couldn’t play the piano, but instead of doing nothing for the remaining quarter, she decided to look into musicals; a prospect that excited the whole class. By April, they began practicing.

In an interview, a couple of students expressed their hope that this would lead to the program’s growth, perhaps even leading to the formation of a proper class. Choir used to be an after-school program before it became a class, so they hope that a theater class will be created after this performance.

Route 66 is scheduled to be performed at 6 PM on May 11th at the Skipworth Performing Arts Center at the Kosciusko Junior High School. There is no admission fee to watch the show. Below are some photos of the team practicing for the big show.

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–A two-car wreck was reported Friday night in Attala County.

The wreck was about 6:20 p.m. on Attala Rd. 4202.

At least two people were hurt, one with a wound on the head from the windshield.

An ambulance was sent to check out both injuries.

It was unclear how the two cars hit.

A community-wide America 250 celebration is being planned for late June in Kosciusko.

Mayor Tim Kyle said the event is scheduled for June 27 and will include a variety of activities for all ages, included children’s events, food trucks, live entertainment, and games.

In addition, fireworks originally scheduled during the recent Natchez Trace Festival will now be launched during the June 27 celebration after being postponed due to weather.

Final details for the event are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The Whippets hosted the Mooreville Troopers at home Saturday evening in the second game of the 4A North State Championship series.  After a loss last night in Mooreville, it’s all on the line for the home team:  Win and force a game three, or lose and call it a done season.

The Troopers got first blood with two runs in the top of the first inning.  The Whippets tied it up with two of their own.  In the second inning, the Whippets added seven runs, 9-2.  They added another run in the third, 10-2.  17-2 after four innings.  The Troopers added two but still fell to the mercy rule, 17-4 the final.

Braxton Smith was named the Autumn Ridge Player of the Game.  Now, that’s something to smile about!

The Kosciusko Whippets baseball team traveled to Mooreville Friday evening to play the Mooreville Troopers in the first game of the best-of-three 4A North State Championship.

The Whippets led 1-0 after the first inning.  Mooreville took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third inning.  The home team tied it, 2-2, in the fourth inning.  The Troopers added four in the fifth inning, 6-2.  Adding two more in the sixth inning, the Whippets went into the seventh inning with a six-run deficit, 8-2.  And that became the final.

Brenden Truss was named the Autumn Ridge Player of the Game.  Now, that’s something to smile about!
