The National Weather Service has placed much of Mississippi including the local area under a Level-1 “marginal” risk of isolated severe storms as a cold front moves into the state this weekend.  Damaging wind gusts and hail will be possible in this area mainly between 5-11 pm Saturday.

A Go Fund Me account has been opened to help pay 16-year-old Nina Dillon’s burial expenses.

There’s a fundraising goal of $4,000.

The average price of gas in Mississippi has topped $3.60 a gallon for the first time since the summer of 2022 and it’s not slowing down.  AAA says it’s up another 7 cents this morning, now at $3.67.  The big jump marks a departure from what we’ve been seeing with daily increases of two cents or less since March 20th.    The auto club says Leake County continues to have some of the cheapest gas in the state with a countywide average of $3.54.  But GasBuddy.com says you can fill up in Carthage for as little as $3.27.   Neshoba County’s average price is $3.62 but in Philadelphia, Gas Buddy says you can buy gas for $3.37.  And in Attala County, the average price is $3.73.  The lowest price Gas Buddy found in Kosciusko was $3.59.

A strong show of faith and unity was on display as community members gathered in large numbers for a prayer vigil Tuesday evening at Crestview Church.

The event was well attended, with people from across Attala County coming together during a time of grief and reflection. Several area pastors led the service, offering prayers for those directly affected by recent tragedies, as well as for the county’s youth, local law enforcement, and the overall strength and unity of the community.

The vigil concluded with attendees standing together to sing “Amazing Grace”.

A grass fire was reported behind the old car wash at Valero around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Kosciusko Firefighters and Police were dispatched to the area, and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Shortly afterward, police stated that a male individual is now banned from the store.

Just before 11 a.m., Kosciusko Police were called back to Valero where siblings, a brother and sister, got into an altercation. One person was taken into custody and another, who was reportedly bleeding in the facial area, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

At 11:50 a.m., officers were alerted to possibly shots fired near Clark Rd. Police searched and patrolled the area but nothing out of the ordinary was found.

The northbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Dr. near Kangaroo Crossing were blocked for a while this afternoon around 1:30 p.m. A log truck’s loaded trailer apparently detached from the truck and blocked traffic for a time. Officers got one of the lanes cleared, then crews directed traffic until the truck and trailer could move from the roadway.

Tennis teams from across Region 4-4A gathered in Kosciusko Tuesday to compete in the district tennis tournament held at Jason Niles Park.

Players from Kosciusko High School, Louisville High School, Houston High School, and Leake Central High School competed throughout the day in singles and doubles matches.

The Region 4-4A District Tournament determines individual seeding for the upcoming state tennis tournament, making each match critical as players work to secure favorable positions in the next round of postseason competition.

Kosciusko served as host site for the event, welcoming athletes, coaches, and spectators to the courts at Jason Niles Park for a full day of competitive play. Matches continued into the afternoon, with competitors battling through multiple rounds.

At the time of this posting, tournament play was still ongoing and final results had not yet been completed.
