KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–Attala County deputies chased a white Chrysler through the city and out into the county Saturday afternoon.

The chase began about 1 p.m. on Smythe St., went by First Presbyterian Church, where the suspect turned. The chase ended up on Huntington, when Kosciusko Police were notified.

The suspect car then headed south on Hwy. 35.

The chase went into Leake County with speeds reaching 80 mph. The chase went onto County Line Rd., then Hwy. 25, with Leake County deputies attempting to help intercept.

Speeds reached more than 100 mph. The chase eventually went nto Winston County with speeds reaching 120. The chase went into Neshoba County on Hwy. 19.

About 2:15 police activity was reported near Munson’s Crossing. That may have been from the same incident.

It was unclear of the suspect was caught. Boswell Media is reaching out to law enforcement to find out how the chase ended.

The suspect may have been wanted on some back warrants.

McCOOL, Miss.–A grass fire was reported on the Natchez Trace Parkway Saturday morning.

That was about 9:30 a.m. Firefighters from McCool and Central stations were dispatched. When they got to the scene French Camp firefighters were also there.

The fire was reported out by 9:45.

All other Attala County fire trucks that were on the way were turned around and sent back to the stations.

McCOOL, Miss.–A grass and woods fire was reported Friday night near McCool.

Firefighters were sent to Attala Rd. 2120 on report of the fire. No structures were believed to be in danger at first, but a power line was reported to be down.

Shortly after firefighters were set and were on their way, dispatrchers got another call that a structure was burning. More firefighters and trucks were called to help.

Shortly after that a firefighter on scene called back and said there was no structure on fire. Firefighters were told that a trailer was on fire, but they did not see that.

Entergy had been called because of the power outage that resulted when the power line came down and arrived shortly after firefighters.

Almost all of Mississippi will be under a Red Flag Warning on Saturday as the danger of wildfires increases.  The National Weather Service says gusty winds, low humidity and dry conditions will combine to create the dangerous situation.  The warning will be in effect from 11 am until 7 pm.

The Kosciusko School District Beauty and Beau Pageant will take place Saturday, March 28, at the Skipworth Auditorium.

The elementary portion of the program will begin at 5:00 pm, with the junior high and high school program to follow.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the Kosciusko Junior High School cheer program.

More details have been released in the case of an infant hospitalized following an early morning incident at a Kosciusko hotel.

Kosciusko Police Chief, Greg Collins says the child’s mother was working in Leake County when she received a call from the baby’s father, who told her the infant was not breathing. The mother then called 911.

The father transported the baby to the emergency room, and Kosciusko Police Department officers responded to the scene as well as the hospital. While investigating the incident, officers determined that the infant had been assaulted.

Police have charged 25-year-old Jeremiah Banks of Leake County with domestic violence – aggravated assault. He is currently being held without bond.

The condition of the infant has not been released at this time. This remains an active investigation. Breezy News will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

Motorists in Carroll County will see ongoing improvements along U.S. 51 as the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues work to replace six bridges in the area.

All concrete bridge decks for the project have been completed. At Site 1, the crushed limestone base is in place, and the contractor is awaiting asphalt to resume paving operations. Site 2 is nearing completion of roadway embankment, with approach slabs being installed using borrow material.

The $15.9 million project was awarded to Ste-Bil Grading Inc. of Waterford, with construction expected to be complete in fall 2026.

MDOT officials remind drivers to exercise caution through work zones and be alert for roadside crews.

Elsewhere in north Mississippi, bridge replacements and roadway improvements are underway on U.S. 51 in Yalobusha County, State Route 9 in Calhoun County, and multiple highways in DeSoto, Panola, Benton, and Lafayette counties. Projects include bridge replacements, mill and overlay work, and new roundabouts, with timelines ranging from this spring through late 2026.
