The Rebels needed a win plus three other results to go their way, while Enfield MIGHT have needed a point depending on whether their relegation rivals St Albans managed to get a win against one of Worthing’s promotion rivals Truro City.

The Pod Squad donned their Hazmats and endured the festering swamp that is Smellworst, helped to out sing the chavlettes and cronies in the home end (with Andy K starting a new song for good measure) until their luckily-deflected winner settled matters and then again for most of the rest of the half until it finally became apparent that the good guys weren’t going to be able to break down their low block - story of our lives against the lesser footballing sides! ;)

Post match a handful of us showed our faces (classy move!) at the local pub we’d been invited to by the ‘other lot’ for some banter and as far as Russell was concerned some tactical therapy….and a curry!

Russ & Pete welcomed Craig Clayton to the pod to tell us about his beloved Barnet FC’s plans to return to the local borough from relative exile in Edgware. Craig is part of the campaign group hoping to raise awareness and support for their bid to return home, with a site very close to their cherished ancestral home (now a school!) at Underhill being the location identified.

As well as telling us his Bees backstory and about how well things are going on the pitch, there’s wistful reminiscences about Underhill (the original), Pete’s account of his own many visits, having been brought up in the vicinity and of the major names that have graced the hallowed turf, such as Tony Cotten and Edgar Davids, yes….THE Edgar Davids.

Then in part two, your regular undynamic duo looked back again to the highly creditable draw at City, stretching the unbeaten run to 7, reflected on the rest of the weekend’s main talking points and examined how the EFL promotion and relegation battles are shaping up.
