The Lord has a rebuke for Satan's accusation against Joshua, the high priest, representing the nation in sin. The rebuke rests on God's intention to pluck a brand from the fire, to take away iniquity, through the coming of God's servant, the Branch. In one day, God will remove the iniquity of that land! This points forward to the day when the Lord Jesus, the Lamb of God, died on the cross as a sacrifice for sin.

God reveals Himself as a father to those who have believed on His Son, the Lord Jesus. This brief survey of Scripture shows how God, the Best Father, cares for us as His children. In showing us this, God gives us an example to imitate.

Through Zechariah the Lord tells of a time in which Jerusalem will overflow its walls with multitudes of inhabitants. Best of all, the Lord Himself will dwell in the midst of them. Also, many nations will be joined to the Lord as His people. The Lord shall choose Jerusalem again!

After showing how mankind has exchanged the glory of God for false gods, the apostle Paul points out that mankind also has exchanged the natural use of our bodies for unnatural uses. God intended marriage, the one-flesh relationship between a man and his wife, to be honorable. Instead, we dishonor our own bodies when we give ourselves over to degrading passions. The only remedy? The gracious gospel of Christ!

Zechariah's second vision turns attention to the nations who scattered the people of Israel. In the first vision, the Lord noted His displeasure with them. Now He tells that He will cast out the nations.

The day following the feeding of the five thousand, Jesus points to Himself as the source of everlasting life. In doing so, He challenges the people's preoccupation with temporal things, the inadequacy of works-based religion, and the endless seeking after a sign. But even in their asking for Him to give them the true bread from heaven, there are barriers to believing—especially their rejection of Jesus' claim to Deity.

In the first of eight visions, Zechariah sees the angel of the Lord asking how long until the Lord shows mercy to Jerusalem and the cities of Judah. The Lord responds with good words, with comfortable words, assuring that He has returned to Jerusalem with mercies; He shall yet comfort Zion!
