The Psalmist David wrote, “I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go to the House of the Lord.’” We should be glad to be invited, and we should be glad to go. Church attendance is foundationally important for the Christian, and we need to make sure that we are there in the Lord’s House, on the Lord’s Day, with the Lord’s people, hearing form the Lord’s Word. Let us arise and go back up to the House of God.

Going to church on Sunday is no longer the norm in America and not even in what was considered the Bible Belt. Fifteen years ago, according to Barna Research, just under half of all American adults claimed to attend church at least once a month – 48%. Early in 2020, that same research showed that number had dropped to 29%, way less than a third. We really don’t need research results to tell us that the number has surely dropped under a quarter since COVID. It’s time for Americans to get back to the house of the Lord.

 Jesus loves me, this I know / For the Bible tells me so. We learned this song as children. About that same time we learned, For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son. Those lessons need to be taught again and again to each generation. Jesus loves every boy and every girl, and He wants every one of them to be saved!

As churches all over America prepare for Vacation Bible Schools, there is an intense focus on reaching children with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Some object, saying, “Those children are too young to know what they are doing.” Be careful, you may find yourself on the wrong end of Jesus’ comments to His own disciples in Mark 10. We want to create a clear path for boys and girls to come to know Jesus personally.

We measure height by inches, feet, even yards. We measure weight by ounces and pounds. Those numbers may tell me how big I am – both how tall and how wide. But they cannot tell me how much I have grown spiritually. For that we look to the meaningful milestone moments that God has given to us. And, like Jeremiah said, we can glory that we understand and know Him, that He is the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.

We measure age the same way we do time: in seconds and minutes and hours and days and weeks and months and years. The number of trips around the sun may tell you how old you are, but it cannot measure how good my life has been, how meaningful, how impactful. We measure that in milestones, those wonderfully unforgettable moments when God does something really special. So, we celebrate those milestone moments in a way that honors the Lord.

The Ascension of Christ is more than just another event, another miracle, in the life and ministry of Jesus. It contains the authoritative framework whereby we have assurances of God’s promises. One of those assurances He gives us is the ability to do His will here until He returns. We call these Spiritual Gifts, and every born-again believer has been given at least one. Now you are capable of doing the very things God created you to do, and it is all through His power.

The Ascension of Christ is more than just another event, another miracle, in the life and ministry of Jesus. It contains the authoritative framework whereby we have assurances of God’s promises. One of those assurances He gives us is the reality of our own salvation, our own soon-coming deliverance. Because Jesus died, was buried, came to life again, and ascended into heaven, I can know for sure that He will return again to take me home in victory and triumph.

Your identity and your value cannot be determined by the achievements in your life – and thankfully, neither your identity nor your value is defined by your past mistakes. Leah, Rachel, and these other moms are struggling with that very issue. If they only knew then what you know now: that your identity is in Christ, thus your value and worth are determined by Him and what He declares concerning you.

The Bible mentions 4 moms to Jacob’s children. You know, although the Bible, and the Old Testament specifically, records occurrences of polygamy, the Bible never condones nor promotes the practice. In fact, in every instance, multiple spouses is a recipe for disaster. In Jacob’s case, it makes for a highly competitive and highly dysfunctional family. And each woman is trying to find her identity through that mess.
