The best things in life come in twos...and threes! We are so pumped about sharing these 3 incredible shows with you, and talking about the duos that make these stories come to life! This episode we talk casting for some of our favorite shows that really highlight two specific characters.

The Last Five Years is a musical written by Jason Robert Brown that premiered at Chicago's Northlight Theatre in 2001 and was then produced Off-Broadway in March 2002. Since then it has had numerous productions both in the United States and internationally. The story explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which Jamie's story is told in chronological order (starting just after the couple have first met) and Cathy's story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the marriage). The characters do not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle as their timelines intersect.

Side Show is a musical by Bill Russell and Henry Krieger based on the lives of Daisy and Violet Hinton, conjoined twins, who became famous stage performers in the 1930s. The musical opened on Broadway on October 16, 1997. Despite receiving some positive reviews, the show closed after 91 performances. A Broadway revival opened in November 2014, and closed after 56 performances.

Dogfight is a musical with music and lyrics by Pasek and Paul and a book by Peter Duchan. It is an adaptation of the 1991 film of the same name. The musical premiered Off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theatre in 2012. In August 2014, the musical had its European premiere in London.

Sugar, butter, flour, and a dang good musical! If you aren't familiar with Waitress, stop what you're doing right now and go listen to the cast album! With music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles and a book by Jessie Nelson, the hit musical is based on the 2007 movie by the same name. The original cast was lead by Jessie Mueller as Jenna, a waitress who has dreams of a life better than the one she was given. When she finds herself pregnant, she bakes up a plan to leave her abusive husband, but falls into a messy affair with her doctor.

Waitress has had two successful national tours, a Broadway run, a Broadway re-boot post COVID shutdown, and a successful West End residency and UK and Ireland tour.

Everyone knows the adorable, spunky, little red-headed orphan Annie, but what if we mixed up that story? In today's episode we've explored a miscast! A miscast is when actors portray roles that they aren't actually right for, or would never play in a conventional telling of the story.  We had so much fun casting the musical Annie with some age and gender-bent roles! 

Annie is a musical with a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Straus, and lyrics by Martin Charnin.  The musical premiered on Broadway on August 10th 1976. It won seven Tony awards in 1977 including Best Musical.

We are so excited to go back to our roots. The Sound of Music is integral to our own upbringings and shaped us into the musical theatre nerds we grew up to be.  is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. In this episode we will dive into the history of the Sound of Music, the true story behind the Von Trapp family, and our own memories of this classic show. Omigod you guys... It's Legally Blonde week! We are so excited about this episode, and we have our first of many celebrity guest casters! This weeks episode is featuring a real life Broadway girl-boss and producer extraordinaire, Abby DePhillips. To quote Legally Blonde, Abby truly exemplifies that "being true to yourself never goes out of style."  We knew we HAD to get her in on this conversation because no one (besides us) loves and knows Legally Blonde the Musical as much as Abby.  Join us as we get to know Abby, talk about (in our humble opinion) the PERFECT no-skips musical, and shout out some of our favorite pros and up-and-comers who we want to see in this show!

Legally Blonde the Musical is a musical with music and lyrics by Lawrence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and book by Heather Hach based on the 2001 movie staring Reece Witherspoon. It premiered at San Francisco's Golden Gate Theatre in February of 2007, and quickly transferred to Broadway, where it opened at the Palace Theatre on April 29, 2007. The original production starred Laura Bell Bundy and Christian Borle. It ran for 595 regular performances before closing on October 19, 2008.

Into the Woods is a musical with music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. Based on many of the classic fairytales we all know and love, Into the Woods explores important themes, and has touched the hearts of theatre lovers for generations! With a new production mounting on Broadway in just a few weeks, we thought that now was the perfect time to talk about our Into the Woods dream cast!
