  • It's Time to Stop Playing Small! Episode #7

Have you ever made yourself small? Diminished your light just a bit in certain situations? Around particular people?

Maybe you've kept quiet, keeping your opinion, thoughts, and ideas to yourself?

You're not alone. Many of us have been in situations where we silence ourselves a little... or a lot. The big question becomes--why? Why do we do this?

Mark & Isela share their journeys from playing small to stepping forward as their authentic selves including their perspectives about where the practice of playing small stems from for each of them.

  • Dude, I Need to Protect My Energy! Episode #6

Do you self-protect? Guarding your heart, in fear of revealing your true emotions? Carrying crystals to protect your energy?

If so, this real, raw, and insightful discussion is FOR YOU!

In this episode, we explore the notion of self-protection, particularly when it comes to feelings of vulnerability. And in true form, we begin with sharing the stories of our earliest experiences--experiences that have influenced our understanding of what it means to protect ourselves and why we no longer hold onto the belief that self-protection is necessary.

  • How, When & Why Spirit Calls, Episode #5

You are on a journey. A spiritual journey. We all are. And our journeys are comprised of experiences that deeply influence how we perceive the world and who we are within the world. Some of these experiences compel us to act and to strive for something different, especially when what we're doing or what we're feeling doesn't seem to be working for us anymore. In this episode, Isela and Mark share monumental moments in their lives that compelled them to act. At the time, these moments didn't feel like an evolutionary experience, but as they reflect upon the nuances of how the Universe worked on their behalf, they realize that these experiences were in fact messages from Spirit.

  • Why You Tryin' to Be White? Episode #4

It's something many of us have heard if we attempt to shift away from cultural and family expectations. Self-improvement, how we raise our children, our spiritual growth, and even the goals we create for ourselves is sometimes perceived as trying to be better than us... or trying to be white. (A feature of white supremacy culture is superiority. It's fascinating, although not surprising, that the perception of "trying to be better than" others is equated to being white.)

It can be incredibly challenging to break away from patterns of behaviors that are so deeply rooted in family traditions and customs. As usual, we share our personal stories about changing the script and choosing to work on becoming more self-aware in an effort to learn how to manage our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors differently. This in itself, has been lifechanging.

Important Note: Developing self-awareness can be incredibly challenging if you've experienced trauma. Isela doesn't share how childhood trauma impacted her journey and it wasn't our intention to simplify the healing process. If paying attention to your thoughts and emotions is too overwhelming, we encourage you reach out to a mental health professional. They can support the process of healing... and you deserve to feel good.

  • Spiritual Beliefs We Hold Close Episode #3

Episode 3 really could have been a five hour podcast! In this episode, we zero in on spiritual beliefs and practices that have been instrumental in our individual journeys. Mark kicks us off with the relationships between our bodies and our spirituality. That conversation evolves into a deep dive of our emotional state of being, landing on our misguided need for approval, acceptance, and love from others. And as always, we identify how our culture intersects with our spirituality--the good, the bad, and the ugly...and the courage to choose our own path, especially when we're expected to stay in our own lane.

  • Experiences Create the Lens We See the World Through Episode #2

It started as a personal conversation about authority and it landed on a reflection of our experiences as well as our feelings about the police. Our perspectives are as uniquely different as they are the same. And our Brown-ness is an integral part of how we try to make sense of this human experience. Were Mark's experiences with the police whispers from the Universe? Or was it simply luck that he didn't get arrested or killed?

And is facing these fears... the fears so deeply entrenched in our cultural influences, a necessary part of our spiritual growth?
