I have this habit of taking notes. 

It does two things: 

1. You have a reminder of something you read/heard/saw.

2. You think before you note so... you get to check your knowledge about this thing you made a note about.

This is how I do it. I have multiple notebooks that run simultaneously to streamline the process without a break in connectivity.
