The Sets In Order organization which published Square Dancing Magazine had by 1970 established two lists of calls that made up Modern Square Dancing. The introductory list was called the 50 Basics with the next list called Extended 75 Basics. These 75 calls were what represented an average club dance in 1972 and would be the forerunner of the original CALLERLAB Mainstream Program.
This was the third consecutive year these lists were featured in an album by Sets In Order. All this was developed under the direction of owner/publisher - Bob Osgood, who is also the MC on this album.
Featured callers are:
Al Brownlee
Johnny Davidson
Bob Dubree
C.O. Guest
Arnie Kronenberger
Bob Page

This recording is from a 2/3 Way Dance held for students learning SSD. Not every call in the program is used.

The Sets In Order organization, started in 1948 as a monthly square dance magazine along with a record label producing music with and without calls for square dancing. Under the direction of Bob Osgood, Sets In Order would branch out into educational resources, printed and recorded along with institutes for dancers and callers. Many point to Sets In Order and Bob Osgood as the major force behind the evolution of Modern Western Square Dancing.
By 1971, "Sets" had developed two lists that would standardize which calls all dancers may be expected to know. Standardization of this kind would make it possible for dancers to travel the world and be able to find dancing that would be comfortable for them. This album represents the entry level 50 calls plus twenty-five "EXTENDED BASICS" along with EXPERIMENTAL CALLS. These were calls that were trying to become part of everyday square dancing.
