In this special episode, we recap our thoughts on Season 5 of both shows. We count down our top 5 moments, discuss our least favorite moments, reveal our favorite episodes, share some predictions, talk about the MANY similarities, and decide which show was better overall. These were both excellent, equally-matched seasons, with too many great moments to name. We're so thankful for all of you who tune in every week as we share these shows with each other and dissect them to silly little pieces. P.S. Things got pretty wild on Charmed this season, and Bryan has apparently blocked it all out.

As mentioned, we'll be taking a 2-week break before starting Season 6, but will be doing a special Q&A episode on September 6th! Submit your questions by noon EST on Saturday August 27th via email ([email protected]) or reach out on social media. (@gilmoreslayer)

Gilmore Girls S5 E22 "A House is Not a Home"/Buffy S5 E22 "The Gift"

What a finale! We've got Xander and Lorelai proposing as their worlds crumble around them, quite literally for the former. We've got Doc and the elder Gilmores doing some backstabbing, again the former's stab is literal. Anya and Luke both go at their enemies with baseball bats. The former should maybe use something stronger; the latter should probably chill a lil. Rory and her mother are beefin' about her choices, as are Buffy and her surrogate dad. Buffy fulfills her destiny, but have Dean and Richard's prophecies also come true? And get ready... our relationship with time is weird now!

Buffy S5 E21 “The Weight of the World"/Gilmore Girls S5 E21 "Blame Booze and Melville"

Our heroines are going through some stuff this week. Rory steals a yacht. Buffy thinks she killed her sister, and both of them justify their behavior with a very specific memory about a book. Buffy and Davey each get a new baby sister!... but were maybe left home alone while their parents went to the hospital to have them? Lorelai has the world's briefest pregnancy scare. Giles has the world's briefest nearly-fatal, spear incident. Emily's swapping foreign exchange dancers faster than Ben and Glory are swapping a body. And we must apologize for something we said a few weeks ago.... but sexily?

Gilmore Girls S5 E20 "How Many Kropogs to Cape Cod?"/Buffy S5 E20 "Spiral"

Buffy, her crew, and Taylor Doose get dramatically attacked by horses. Willow tells Giles to not hit the horsies, and Luke doesn't need to hit Taylor, cuz that horsie's got things covered. While Rory nervously starts her new internship, Buffy confidently calls an old intern friend. We get a little more backstory on Ben and Glory, and a LOT more backstory on Logan's dad. Glory and Logan steal priceless items from Buffy and Emily, a sister and a sewing box respectively. Plus we propose an idea for an Emily prequel as well as some ideas for what Riley's been up to.

Buffy S5 E19 “Tough Love"/Gilmore Girls S5 E19 "But I'm a Gilmore!"

Tara is wrongly assumed to be Glory's key and pays for it dearly. Meanwhile Rory wrongly assumes Logan's family will like her, but ends up with an internship! Despite their huge fight, Willow vows to take care of Tara indefinitely. And despite being pre-med, Paris assigns her Nanny to take care of Doyle indefinitely. Willow thinks Buffy is being a little too tough on Dawn about her schoolwork, and Sookie is definitely being too tough on Luke for dropping everything to do her a huge solid. Plus... Bryan's sickness has moved on to Stacey, but at least she understands arithmetic...

Gilmore Girls S5 E18 "To Live and Let Diorama"/Buffy S5 E18 "Intervention"

Taylor Doose has gathered many mannequins to tell the history of Stars Hollow, meanwhile Spike's acquired just the one, which he's using for... a different purpose... The former share the story of Buff Rite, while the latter is definitely Buff WRONG. Glory attempts to get Spike to give up the key, while Luke attempts to get Taylor to give up a whole dang house. Rory and her friends have a little too much to drink, while real Buffy goes to the desert without anything to drink. We get special guest appearances by Dean and Giles's gourd. And Bryan's sick, so we're having pizza rolls!

Buffy S5 E17 “Forever"/Gilmore Girls S5 E17 "Pulp Friction"

We'll never know if Dawn's spell made Joyce come back wrong or right, but Emily definitely came back to Luke's VERY in the wrong re: her daughter's relationship. Buffy & Lorelai put Dawn & Emily in their place, respectively, one with a hand slap, the other with a word slap. Spike pulls an Emily, selfishly thinking a "grand gesture" can win favor with the woman he’s trying to win over. Kirk, like Joyce, is creepily wandering around in the dark of night. Lorelai thinks she's a cat. Dawn thinks she's a fat fish, and.. BOTH shows have big leather-bound books going missing!?!? We see you, ASP!

Gilmore Girls S5 E16 "So... Good Talk"/Buffy S5 E16 "The Body"

Whether you've been with us from the beginning or have recently binged and are seeing this in the future, thank you SO much for coming on this journey with us, and for listening to us discuss these shows 100 times! Plenty more to go. Not too many similarities this week, except for a blackened Cajun reference that's just TOO specific to be coincidence. And we're not sure what bore the brunt of someone's anger this week: Willow's wall from Xander's fist, the citizens of Stars Hollow from Luke's rage working, or those poor purple flowers from Emily's sassy shearing.

Buffy S5 E15 “I Was Made to Love You"/Gilmore Girls S5 E15 "Jews and Chinese Food"

Luke's building sets for a play, Lorelai's building a garish woman cave, and Sunnydale's Warren built a whole dang woman! Buffy processes her tumultuous love life by relating to a sex bot, while Luke and Lorelai process their love life by listening to Kirk sing a romantic duet with a child. While Warren sidelines the girlfriend he invented, Rory decides it's time to unsideline Marty, at least until Logan gets back to town. Giles goes all Ripper on Spike. Lorelai and the sex bot have awkward coffee shop experiences. And you won't believe what kind of soup comes out of Bryan's computer.

**Unfortunately Stacey's audio sounds a bit muffled this episode. The problem was not detected until after we recorded. We suspect it was due to a computer memory issue, as we've since recorded next week's episode, which sounds normal. Apologies for the lower quality this week.
