  • Episode 23: No Start-up is an Island
This week, Amanda interviews Diana Muturia, Founder and CEO of Clyn, a mobile app that connects you with the top cleaners and home service providers in your area. The app builds community through features like accolades and badges for anyone who hires "Clyners", and ensures safe, thorough, and fun experiences. It will first launch in Phoenix, AZ, and then will launch in other US communities and also in Kenya. Diana had the idea to build the app after she'd supported herself through college by cleaning houses. After immigrating to the United States from Kenya to attend university, Diana dropped out after a few years due to financial hardship. She continued cleaning homes and met other small cleaning providers especially in the Black and Hispanic communities and got to listen to their unique stories. Inspired by those she met, she and a friend decided to use their creativity and expertise to build an app. This app addresses community needs for cleaning and home services, as well as serving the people who provide these services. Diana speaks candidly about her experiences with depression after dropping out of college, and the support network and inner strength that got her through it. She stresses the importance of community, and even brings community into her work, encouraging "social cleaning" and fun incentives for Clyn app users. Diana is also a model, who is proud to represent Black women in print media. Even growing up in Kenya, she rarely saw a Black or Brown woman on a billboard and is now helping to correct that horrible imbalance by serving as a role model for young girls everywhere. To learn more about Clyn, visit Clynapp.com and follow @clynapp on Instagram. You can also follow Diana @dianamuturia and watch her entrepreneurial and modeling careers unfold.

  • Episode 22: Winning by Seven Votes
In this week's episode (recorded 5/30/20), Amanda speaks to Kristie Ferrantella, a woman who grew up in the small island community of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Kristie now serves on the Select Board, which is the governing body of the island and is also the President of the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce. After high school, Kristie earned her undergraduate degree and her Master's Degree in Economics off-island, and worked in jobs in both Boston and Washington DC. Kristie then felt a pull to move back home. Driven by a desire to give back, she has dedicated her career and her free time to serving her island community. Kristie shares about what gave her the confidence to run for office, what it was like to face the pandemic, and the work that goes into protecting and supporting thousands of people during a global health crisis. As of July 7th, Nantucket has seen just 27 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, and it's due to the leadership and commitment of those like Kristie. Kristie also encourages those who visit Nantucket this summer to help keep those numbers low by wearing a mask and social distancing. (NOTE: on June 29th, the Board of Health voted unanimously to issue an emergency order, making it mandatory to wear a face-covering in all outside public areas, as well as inside restaurants and shops downtown. The ruling is in place regardless of social distancing. It also includes Sconset.) And, Kristie shares about ACK Saves, a local movement to support residents in need. Tourism, hospitality, and construction (major industries on the island) were hard hit by the pandemic. While Nantucket has a reputation for being an upper-class community, Kristie explains that many year-round residents are working and middle-class families, many of whom have lost significant income during this time. To learn more about the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce or get involved, visit NantucketChamber.org. Additionally, to donate to ACK Saves, visit acksaves.org and help struggling island families. "MECE, pronounced "me see", is a concept commonly used at top consulting firms to talk about the approach consultants use to solve problems. Partners at McKinsey, BCG or Bain will often tell their team "I looked at what you've done. I like it but can we make this framework MECE?"

MECE stands for Mutually Exclusive and Collectively Exhaustive. Consultants usually solve clients' problems using a framework. For a framework to be MECE, its different parts CANNOT overlap (Mutually Exclusive). But they need to cover ALL possible causes of the client's problem (Collectively Exhaustive)."

After a twenty-year, highly successful corporate career, focusing on business strategy, human relations, and communications, and working for five of the top companies in the world, Angie decided to make a change. Amanda and Angie dive into matters of finding purpose, taking risks, the dark night of the soul, and listening to our bodies. Angie expands on what it means that life is designed to get better, and encourages listeners to put in the work to gain clarity. She also discusses building confidence through taking risks and trusting in the unknown. And, when we listen to the answers our bodies tell us about what or who we need in our lives, everything becomes much easier.

Life Purpose Advisor teaches a philosophy and program that states:

    • We all already know our life purpose.
    • We gain glimpses of our life purpose throughout our life from many of our life experiences, both good and bad.
    • Our jobs are to accumulate that information into a recognizable form and to become clear enough to listen and hear what is already within us.
    • Our purpose is already aligned with a higher calling. Once we discover it, we are here to promote more conscious societies and business environments.

To learn more about Angie's work, visit http://www.lifepurposeadvisor.com/ and subscribe to Life Purpose Advisor Podcast - rated #1 on the iTunes New and Noteworthy chart for Spirituality and Religion - to hear her interviews with spiritual leaders and difference makers about their life purpose paths.
