This week completes the REAL series; a series exploring what it means to live an authentic Christian life. James concludes his letter to the early church with a charge – look out for and go after those that wander from their faith (James 5:19-20). James highlights what matters most to Jesus – people. People matter and our connection to God matters. Though we are all broken, it is through our brokenness that the love and light of Jesus can shine through. REAL Concern shines God’s light and responds to brokenness with mercy, grace and the love of Jesus.
This weeks message was shared by Tim Henkel.

REAL Prayer isn’t about getting what you want when you want it. REAL Prayer is about trusting in God in every circumstance of your life. REAL Prayer is about maintaining that constant connection to the Father in heaven.
James 5:13-18
A REAL Heart is a humble heart. And a humble heart is an exalted heart. Selfish pride separates us from those we love and causes us to separate from the God who loves us. When we approach God with humility and we will also approach each other the same way.
Fighting and bickering among ourselves breaks the heart of God. Choosing the things of the world over the things of God, breaks the heart of God. When friends turn on friends, it breaks the heart of God. Pride breaks God’s heart and there is no grace available for the prideful heart. Grace is given to the humble heart and God exalts the humble heart.
James 4:1-10

What does REAL Wisdom look like? The one who has REAL wisdom never uses it to take advantage of others, but only uses it to the benefit of others. James (3:13-18) writes that Godly wisdom is pure and peaceable, full of mercy and free of hypocrisy. REAL wisdom seeks peace in troubled times. It is not guided by self ambition or desires, but puts God’s love and mercy first.

Words Matter. Words are Powerful. Words can lift up or tear down. What we say can bring someone closer to God or push them away. Too often we praise God in one moment and curse others in the next. We are to control our words, but REAL Control of our tongues cannot be done by ourselves. REAL Control comes from a life led by the Spirit and it speaks words of Life, Hope and Encouragement.
