MIND YOUR FASHION is a Not for Profit business designed to raise awareness and support those who work in the fashion and creative industries and experience Mental Illness. Mind Your Fashion was founded by Jude Kingston in 2019. The idea was born out of a deep desire to shine a spotlight on Mental Health in the fashion and creative industries. Having worked in the fashion industry for close to three decades Jude personally experienced mental illness and also witnessed colleagues suffer with mental illness. Working for several of Australia’s largest retailers both public (ASX listed) and privately owned, Jude found the behaviours of the industry were systemic and fundamentally same no matter where she worked, In 2016 Jude had her worst experience, it devastated her. Thoughts of suicide gave way to depression, stress and anxiety. It took her 2 years to recover and the invisible scars remain. Through these experiences over the years it highlighted a need to talk about and raise awareness for Mental illness in the Fashion and Creative Industries and in doing so effect a change within these industries. And with that, Mind Your Fashion was created. Mind Your Fashion’s goal is to partner with key businesses in the areas of Psychology and Counselling, Exercise and Fitness, Nutrition, Health, Wellness and self-care to provide support to those who need it. Ambassadors who align with the fashion and creative industries will support the cause of Mind Your Fashion and help us to spread the word nationally and internationally. Mind Your Fashion will develop a compliance and accreditation process where fashion and creative businesses can apply for Mind Your Fashion Approval. Businesses will be required to meet specific criteria in order to achieve accreditation. Once accreditation is granted the business will be able to promote itself as one that upholds and supports the Mental health and wellbeing of all those who work for them. The message will be strong and clear – THIS IS A SAFE PLACE TO WORK. Services for Mind Your Fashion include speaking engagements sharing experiences and strategies to manage mental illness and effect change, Workshops, Events, and panel discussions with industry experts to raise awareness. At Mind Your Fashion we believe that Mental Illness and Mental Health are as important to a business as safety. That Caring for our employees is as important as caring for our planet. Being ethical in the way we conduct business is as important as being ethical to those who work for us.
