Cheeky Fox decides to play a trick on his good friend Stork. After inviting Stork for a meal at his house, Fox serves the food in a shallow bowl. Poor Stork cannot get his beak into the bowl and goes hungry. Annoyed at Fox’s trick, Stork invites Fox to his house.  He brings out a delicious fish stew in a jar with a narrow neck. Fox is unable to eat as his snout will not fit into the  neck of the jar. He complains angrily to Stork who tells him that he should not play tricks on others if he is unable to take the same treatment himself.

🍎 A former farmer dreams of doing something for others. One day he had a great idea. Whilst out rowing in his little boat, he stopped near an apple orchard. He carried out jobs for the locals and asked for a strange kind of payment in return - apple seeds.  When it was time for him to move on, he rowed on and on until there were no more houses to be seen. Only then did he stop and tie up his little boat. He took out the apple seeds and scattered them around an open place. He did this several more times in several more places. Soon the seeds grew into trees creating apple orchards. Many years later, when settlers were looking for places to live, they would chose these spots where fruit trees were in abundance. The man was nicknamed Johnny Appleseed

A classic bedtime spooky story read aloud for children #Halloween2021...

Antone and Babette are the children of the poor woodcutter and his wife and the family live in a little cottage in the forest. Antone is a marvel with his hands and can carve and create toys as good as those found in the shops.

One October, six year old Babette hears about Halloween for the first time. She wants to go into the village and celebrate in the same way as the other children. Antone refuses, stating that they would get lost trying to find their way home through the forest in the dark. Little Babette is so upset that Antone promises some Halloween fun just for the two of them.  That night they creep outside of the cottage dressed as ghosts. When Antone goes to pick up his exquisitely carved pumpkin, to his great surprise, the pumpkin talks! The pumpkin runs away from Antone and Babette and encourages a whole host of other vegetables to join in and abandon Antone’s vegetable patch.

The children chase angrily after the vegetables. Finally, after a confrontation, they all become friends. Antone and Babette meet some witches and together they all enjoy a wonderful Halloween evening. Rather than return to the vegetable patch, the pumpkin and his friends decide to plant themselves where they are. To compensate Antone for the loss of vegetable sales, they give each child a bottomless bag of gold coins.  The woodcutter and his wife can hardly believe the children’s tale when they return home and the villagers gaze in wonder when the woodcutter’s wife affords herself a beautiful new dress. The family live happily and carefree from that moment on.

On a freezing New Year's Eve a poor young girl, shivering and barefoot, tries to sell matches in the street. Afraid to go home because her father will beat her for failing to sell any matches, she huddles in the alley between two houses and lights matches, one by one, to warm herself.  In the flame of the matches she sees a series of comforting visions: a warm stove, a holiday feast, a happy family, and a Christmas tree. Each vision disappears as its match burns out. In the sky she sees a shooting star, which her late grandmother had told her means someone is on their way to Heaven...

There was once a merchant with three daughters. The merchant had to travel for quite some weeks and asked each daughter what he should bring her upon his return. Beauty, the youngest of the three, asked for a pretty flower, chosen by their father.  Weeks went by and the merchant returned home. Passing a castle, he noticed a pretty little rose garden. He went inside and plucked a flower. “What are you doing?” roared a great, hairy Beast. The merchant explained about Beauty and the rose. The Beast agreed to let the merchant go free, if he promised to send his daughter to live in the castle.  Beauty went to the castle. At first she was frightened of the Beast but soon grew to enjoy his company.  One day the Beast asked Beauty to marry him, but she refused. She began to cry because she missed her family. The Beast gave her a magic mirror that allowed her to see them at any moment.  Beauty saw in the mirror that her father was ill. The Beast allowed her to go home and care for him. One night Beauty had a terrible dream that the Beast was dying. She realised how much she loved him and went hurrying back to tell him. Upon hearing her declaration, the Beast changed into a handsome prince. He explained that he had been under a curse. Now that Beauty loved him, he had turned back into a prince. The two of them married and lived happily ever after.
