Jesus had to leave the disciples after appearing to them in Jerusalem. Otherwise they would have had no reason to minister in his name, spread the Way in Samaria and the Word in the end of the world (Rome.)

How can we call today "good" when it is the day that Jesus died? Today is "God's" day of action. Good Friday is God's Friday, and for that we are all thankful

We're building a road for God? A god who can raise the valleys and lower the mountains? I'd rather have the level road. Our task in Advent is to make it easier for people to experience God -- so maybe we are to build the road so God gets to people in ways that they need God to be there.

This was our first Sunday using the Narrative Lectionary. Hearing about Josiah's reforms isn't what we'd expect to hear on Advent I. Looking at the similarities between Josiah and Jesus though gives us a good footing to start off our Advent journey in our own lives.

In the midst of an horrific week, we also remember that earlier in the week we prayed for peace. That is the peace that Jesus came into the world to prclaim, and that we continue to meet to hear about and have hope for the future.

The story of the Widow's mite is often used as a cash grab text. God doesn't want our money. God wants our whole life. The money part is easy, once we give our life to God.
