Have you ever loved someone so deeply that losing them felt like losing yourself?
What if the hardest part of losing a relationship isn't losing the other person—but losing the version of yourself you believed only existed because of them?
In this deeply personal episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores why we lose ourselves in relationships, why we stay in unhealthy marriages, and how to rediscover our identity, self-worth, and independence after divorce and heartbreak.
When Erica's marriage ended, she didn't just lose her husband. She lost the life she had built, the family structure she treasured, and the identity she had wrapped around being a wife and mother.
For years, she believed her husband was responsible for everything beautiful about that life.
But through recovery, healing, and years of self-discovery, she came to a life-changing realization:
She was the one who created so much of what she loved. And that woman had never disappeared.
With raw honesty, Erica shares her journey through childhood trauma, an emotionally volatile marriage, infidelity, alcoholism, divorce, and the painful process of rebuilding herself from the ground up.
She also takes a closer look at the psychology of romantic attachment and why leaving an unhealthy relationship can feel almost impossible—even when we know it's hurting us.
Drawing on research into attachment theory, trauma bonding, fear of being alone, self-concept, and the neuroscience of romantic rejection, Erica explores how our childhood experiences can shape the relationships we choose and the identities we build around them.
In this episode, Erica discusses:
Erica also shares something that makes her story different.
She doesn't hate her ex-husband.
Despite the painful history they share, both have grown, changed, and built a friendship that works better than their marriage ever did.
Today, Erica is 56, happily single, deeply connected to her children, and living a life she once couldn't imagine.
She doesn't need another relationship to feel complete.
Because she finally understands that her happiness, her strength, and her identity were never someone else's to give her.
This episode isn't about blaming your partner or convincing you to leave your relationship.
It's about understanding yourself.
Why do you love the person you're with? What are you afraid of losing? And if that relationship ended tomorrow, would you still know who you are?
Whether you're healing from divorce, recovering from a toxic relationship, navigating heartbreak, or simply trying to reconnect with the woman you were before everyone else's needs came first, this conversation is for you.
You can love someone and still recognize that the relationship isn't right for you.
You can forgive someone without returning to the past.
And you can rebuild a beautiful, meaningful life after everything you thought defined you has fallen apart.
Because sometimes the person you've been searching for isn't someone new.
It's the woman you were all along.
Burn It Down and Begin Again is a podcast about healing, personal transformation, resilience, recovery, self-discovery, and creating a life you genuinely love—at any age.

💫 Because when women rise together, we change the world.
What would you do if the power went out tomorrow—and didn't come back on for three days?
No electricity. Limited communication. ATMs and gas stations potentially unavailable. How prepared would you and your family really be?
With growing conversations about power grid vulnerabilities, cyberattacks, extreme weather, and emergency preparedness, it's easy to get caught between two extremes: ignoring the risks completely or falling into a cycle of fear and doomscrolling.
But there's a better way.
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores power grid failures, emergency preparedness, blackout survival, and how to choose faith over fear in an increasingly uncertain world.
At 56, Erica has rebuilt her life from a place of darkness into one filled with purpose, gratitude, and personal empowerment. And one of the most important lessons she's learned is that while we can't control everything happening around us, we can control how we respond.
Drawing on her concerns about infrastructure vulnerabilities, international preparedness messaging, and the influence of fear-based media, Erica discusses why she believes practical preparation matters—and why panic accomplishes nothing.
She walks through what a prolonged power outage could mean for everyday life and shares the emergency supplies she keeps on hand to help protect herself, her family, and her pets.
In this episode, Erica discusses:
Erica also explores a powerful idea found across spiritual and philosophical traditions: being prepared and having faith are not opposites.
You can acknowledge real-world risks without surrendering your peace of mind.
You can make a plan without expecting the worst.
And you can take responsibility for what is within your control while letting go of what isn't.
Whether you're new to emergency preparedness, concerned about potential power outages, or simply exhausted by frightening headlines and social media predictions, this conversation is about reclaiming your sense of control.
Because fear keeps you focused on everything that could go wrong.
Preparation helps you focus on what you can actually do.
The message is simple: Prepare for the unexpected. Protect the people you love. Then get back to living your life.
Faith over fear. Every single time.
Burn It Down and Begin Again is a podcast about personal transformation, resilience, healing, mindset, and rebuilding your life on your own terms.

What really happens when we die? Is death the end of consciousness, or could it be the beginning of something we don't yet understand?
And if we knew our time was running out, would we live differently today?
In this deeply personal episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores death, dying, the afterlife, end-of-life dreams and visions, grief, and the extraordinary experiences reported by hospice patients in their final days.
After a frightening medical emergency forced her to confront her own mortality, Erica began reflecting on the loss of her mother, the people she loves, and what truly matters when our time here comes to an end.
Then an interview with hospice and palliative care physician Dr. Christopher Kerr, author of Death Is But a Dream: Finding Hope and Meaning at Life's End, caught her attention.
Drawing on Kerr's research into end-of-life experiences, Erica explores accounts of dying patients who describe vivid dreams and visions of deceased loved ones, including parents, spouses, children, and even beloved pets.
Many describe feelings of peace, comfort, forgiveness, and reunion—experiences that sometimes appear to ease their fear of dying.
But what are these experiences?
Are they the brain's way of processing memories and emotions? Could they reflect something about consciousness that science doesn't yet fully understand? Or might they point toward the possibility of life after death?
Erica examines these questions through the perspectives of hospice research, spirituality, consciousness, and her own personal beliefs about reincarnation and the afterlife—while acknowledging that what happens after death remains an open question.
She also shares the unforgettable story of taking her mother on a long-dreamed-of European adventure before her cancer diagnosis, the memories of her mother's final days, and a deeply meaningful experience involving a ladybug shortly after her passing.
Beyond the mysteries of dying, this conversation reveals something equally important about how we choose to live.
When people approach the end of life, what matters most often isn't money, professional success, or possessions.
It's love. Family. Connection. Forgiveness. The people who made us feel seen, and the people we hope will remember us.
In this episode, Erica explores:
Whether you've lost someone you love, are caring for an aging parent, are curious about near-death and end-of-life experiences, or have simply wondered what happens when we die, this episode offers a thoughtful and deeply human conversation about mortality.
Because perhaps the most important lesson we can learn from dying has nothing to do with death itself.
It's about how we live while we're still here.
Call the person you've been meaning to call. Let go of the argument that won't matter five years from now. Spend time with the people you love. Tell them what they mean to you.
We don't know how much time we have.
But we do get to decide what we do with the time we're given.
Death may be life's greatest mystery. Love is what gives the journey meaning.

How to Stop Being Defensive: Communicate Better and Protect Your Relationships
Have you ever had someone tell you that you hurt their feelings—and before they even finished speaking, you were already preparing your defense?
You're not listening anymore. You're explaining, justifying, correcting, or trying to prove why they're wrong.
And suddenly, a conversation that could have brought you closer becomes an argument that pushes you further apart.
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores why we become defensive in relationships, how emotional triggers affect communication, and why learning to listen with curiosity instead of reacting with anger can transform the way we connect with others.
Through honest personal experiences involving her boss, her daughter, and her ex-husband, Erica shares moments when her own defensiveness, passive-aggressive reactions, and need to explain herself got in the way of healthy communication.
Because even when our intentions are good, the way we respond can still hurt the people we care about.
Erica dives into emotional intelligence, active listening, conflict resolution, taking responsibility, healthy boundaries, and recognizing the difference between constructive criticism and emotional manipulation.
She also introduces a practical five-step technique called PAUSE, designed to help you manage emotional reactions before they turn into damaging arguments:
This isn't about accepting blame for everything, tolerating mistreatment, or allowing someone else's feelings to erase your own.
It's about learning how to stop being defensive, communicate more effectively, repair relationships, and respond instead of react—while still protecting your emotional well-being.
Whether you're navigating difficult family relationships, communication problems with your partner, workplace conflict, or patterns you've carried since childhood, this episode offers a reminder that personal growth begins with self-awareness.
You don't have to win every disagreement.
Sometimes the greatest thing you can do for a relationship is stop defending yourself long enough to understand the person standing in front of you.
Because defensiveness protects your ego. Curiosity protects your relationships.
And learning the difference can change everything.

When Did We Stop Thinking for Ourselves? The Power of Discernment
When did we stop questioning what we're told—and start simply subscribing to it?
News. Politics. Religion. Social media. Family beliefs. Cultural expectations. From the moment we're born, we're surrounded by people and institutions telling us what to believe, what to fear, what success looks like, who we're supposed to be, and even what we're supposed to believe about ourselves.
But how much of what you believe did you actually choose?
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica dives into critical thinking, discernment, independent thinking, personal sovereignty, fear, media influence, inherited beliefs, and learning to trust your own judgment.
Drawing from her experiences during the COVID era, her changing relationship with organized religion, her recovery from alcoholism, and her own spiritual evolution, Erica explains why she believes one of the most important things we can do is learn to question everything—including ourselves.
This isn't about replacing one belief system with another. It's about asking better questions.
Where did this belief come from?
Who taught it to me?
Have I ever actually examined it?
Am I making this decision because I believe it—or because I'm afraid of stepping outside the group?
Erica also explores how fear, repetition, social pressure, media messaging, political narratives, religious conditioning, and the people around us can influence our thinking without us even realizing it.
And the conversation goes deeper than politics or institutions.
What do you believe about yourself?
Are you worthy? Are you capable? Are you too old to start again? Are you destined to repeat your past? And perhaps most importantly: Who gave you those beliefs in the first place?
Erica challenges listeners to conduct an honest inventory of the ideas they've carried through life and separate inherited programming from beliefs they've consciously chosen.
Because personal growth isn't only about changing your circumstances.
Sometimes it's about taking ownership of your own mind.
Question what you're told. Question what you've inherited. Question your own assumptions. Then decide for yourself what you actually believe.
Your mind belongs to you. Don't hand it over.

What Happens to Women After 50? When the World Stops Looking—but You’re Just Getting Started
What happens to women after 50?
We don't suddenly become less interesting, less capable, or less ambitious. In fact, for many women, the opposite happens. We finally know who we are, what we want, what we're willing to tolerate—and what we're absolutely finished putting up with.
So why does it sometimes feel like the rest of the world has stopped noticing?
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica tackles what she calls the “invisible age gap”—that strange chapter when women over 50 can begin feeling overlooked in media, advertising, dating, the workplace, and even everyday interactions at the exact time many of us are becoming more confident and comfortable in our own skin.
Erica gets personal about what she's noticed since turning 50, from the changing attention of men to the subtle ways her adult children and other people now treat her differently. She also explores the complicated expectations placed on women around aging gracefully, beauty, cosmetic treatments, sexuality, and the pressure to somehow look younger without appearing to try too hard.
The conversation turns to dating after 50 and the frustrating age gap many single women encounter, as well as something Erica sees happening among more women in midlife: they're no longer waiting for a relationship to make their lives complete.
They're traveling. Building careers and businesses. Deepening friendships. Discovering new passions. Enjoying their independence. And sometimes choosing to stay single simply because they genuinely love the lives they've created.
Erica also looks at women such as Brooke Shields, Paulina Porizkova, and Pamela Anderson, who have publicly challenged conventional ideas about women, beauty, visibility, and aging.
Because maybe turning 50 isn't the beginning of becoming irrelevant.
Maybe it's the beginning of finally becoming completely yourself.
If you're navigating life after 50, dating after 50, empty nesting, aging, starting over in midlife, finding purpose, or simply wondering what you want the next chapter of your life to look like, this conversation is for you.
We didn't age out. And we're not finished. We may just be getting started.

Chapter 51 - You can’t build a new life on the same old frequency
Can Changing Your Energy Change Your Life?
We hear it everywhere: protect your energy, raise your vibration, change your frequency, become a magnet for what you want.
But what does any of that actually mean—and how do you put it into practice in real life?
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores the connection between your thoughts, beliefs, energy, mindset, and the reality you create around you. Instead of allowing every circumstance, relationship, disappointment, or outside opinion to determine how you feel, what happens when you become a stronger influence on your own internal world?
Erica dives into the old programming many of us carry for years: I'm not enough. People can't be trusted. I never have enough. Things never work out for me. Something always goes wrong.
When those thoughts are repeated long enough, they stop feeling like beliefs and start feeling like facts.
But familiarity isn't proof.
Through personal stories about relationships, money, work, boundaries, manifestation, and her own deeply ingrained beliefs about trust, Erica explains how to identify the emotional “frequency” you've been living in and begin consciously changing it.
She also explores abundance mindset, limiting beliefs, protecting your energy, setting healthy boundaries, choosing the people you surround yourself with, breaking negative thought patterns, and learning to separate what actually happened from the story your mind created about it.
This isn't about toxic positivity or pretending painful things don't happen. You can experience fear and still do something brave. You can be angry and still make a healthy decision. You can be disappointed and refuse to turn that disappointment into proof that nothing ever works out for you.
The goal isn't to never have a negative thought.
The goal is to recognize when old programming has taken over—and learn how to return to yourself.
Because where your attention goes, things grow. Your repeated beliefs influence your choices, your choices influence your actions, and those actions help shape what happens next.
So ask yourself: What are you becoming a magnet for?
You may have more influence over your next chapter than you realize.

What does it really take to reinvent your life?
Not just change how you look. Not just change your career, your relationships, or your habits. Real reinvention happens when your mind, body, and spirit begin working together.
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores her personal blueprint for creating a life that feels healthier, stronger, more intentional, and genuinely fulfilling.
This is about more than starting over. It’s about looking honestly at every part of your life—your mindset, physical health, emotional well-being, daily habits, energy, relationships, and spiritual connection—and deciding what belongs in the next version of you.
Erica shares the practices, tools, and changes that have become part of her own reinvention journey and how taking responsibility for her health and happiness has changed the way she approaches aging, wellness, personal growth, and what comes next.
The goal isn't perfection. It's becoming an active participant in your own life instead of waiting for circumstances to change before you do.
Whether you're navigating midlife, recovering from a difficult chapter, working on your physical and mental health, or simply realizing that you want more from the years ahead, this episode offers a reminder: you are allowed to reinvent yourself as many times as necessary.
Your past may explain how you got here.
It doesn't have to decide where you go next.

Have you ever awakened from a dream that felt too vivid, emotional, or meaningful to ignore?
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores the mysterious world of dreams and what they may reveal about our emotions, fears, desires, memories, and unresolved experiences.
Our conscious minds may become quiet when we fall asleep, but our inner world continues speaking. Through symbols, familiar faces, strange places, and powerful emotions, dreams can reflect the thoughts and feelings we avoid, suppress, or simply do not have time to process during our waking lives.
Erica examines the connection between dreams and the subconscious mind, why certain people repeatedly appear in our dreams, how past relationships and painful experiences can resurface while we sleep, and why the emotion left behind by a dream may matter more than its literal storyline.
This episode is not about treating every dream as a prediction or searching for one universal interpretation. It is about becoming curious. What was happening in the dream? How did it make you feel? What is happening in your life right now—and what might your inner world be asking you to notice?
Dreams can expose lingering grief, hidden fear, unmet needs, changing identities, and parts of ourselves that are still trying to heal. They may also reconnect us with creativity, intuition, hope, and possibilities we have not yet allowed ourselves to explore.
If you have ever wondered what your dreams mean, why certain dreams repeat, or whether your subconscious is trying to tell you something, this episode invites you to slow down, listen, and look beneath the surface.
Your dreams may not be giving you a set of instructions.
But they may be showing you where to begin.

REPROGRAM YOUR LIFE: RUNNING YOUR REALITY INSTEAD OF REACTING TO IT
What if your life isn't simply happening to you? What if you have far more influence over your reality than you've ever been taught to believe?
In this episode of Burn It Down and Begin Again, Erica explores The Kybalion, Hermetic philosophy, the seven Hermetic principles, and the principle of Mentalism—an ancient framework that fundamentally changed the way she approaches her life.
After surviving addiction, debilitating depression, divorce, and years of living in survival mode, Erica realized that rebuilding her life required more than changing her circumstances. She had to change the mind that was experiencing them.
Erica breaks down the seven Hermetic principles—Mentalism, Correspondence, Vibration, Polarity, Rhythm, Cause and Effect, and Gender—and explains why Mentalism became the most powerful principle in her own transformation.
Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” she began asking a different question: What am I creating from the state of mind I'm living in?
This episode dives into manifestation, abundance versus scarcity, subconscious programming, gratitude, energetic alignment, self-awareness, and the difference between living as the effect of your circumstances and becoming the cause of what happens next.
Erica also shares how changing her internal state helped her rebuild relationships, create a life she genuinely loves, grow a new business, and stop identifying as a victim of what happened to her.
This isn't about pretending bad things don't happen or believing you can control every circumstance. It's about recognizing the power you do have: the ability to examine the beliefs you've inherited, question the programming you've carried for years, change the way you think, and intentionally decide who you're going to become.
If you feel trapped in survival mode, stuck in negative thinking, curious about manifestation and Hermetic philosophy, or simply ready to stop reacting to life and start intentionally creating it, this episode challenges you to rethink what you believe about your own power.
You are not a passive character waiting to see what your life does next.
You can change the programming.
You can change the story.
And you can begin running your reality instead of simply reacting to it.

Hosted by Erica, Burn It Down & Begin Again is a raw, soul-baring podcast about what happens when the life you built burns to the ground — and the woman who rises from…
This is more than a story of survival. It’s a journey of truth-telling, healing, and radical reinvention. Erica opens with her own chapters of addiction, abuse, betrayal, and breakdowns — not to dwell on the past, but to light the way forward. From there, the podcast shifts into rebuilding and manifesting the life you want, surviving and healing from codependency and narcissism, reclaiming your voice, and learning how to stand in your power as the woman you were always meant to be.
Each episode unpacks a piece of the path back to wholeness: untangling toxic relationships, setting boundaries, rewriting old narratives, and creating a life filled with strength, purpose, and joy. Erica doesn’t sugarcoat the pain — but she shows how to use it as fuel.
If you’ve ever felt silenced, isolated, or like no one could possibly understand what you’ve been through — this podcast is for you.
This is about remembering your worth. Reclaiming your voice. And rebuilding a life that feels like truth.
Part of the Chickology™ podcast collective — real women telling real stories to break cycles, rise in power, and reclaim what was stolen.
