Do we think of ourselves as more important than we should? Or do we give others more importance than we should?

Importance is important, but only to a certain extent. We can sometimes overdo it in building up ourselves or others. Humility is a good thing, and so is treating others with respect, no matter their position in life. It is all about finding that right balance.

And all of that is Biblical, too, with scriptures to back it up. It sounds like this is not a new problem we are just now having.

After another extended absence, the Burnsland Podcast returns!

Steve returns to talk about the posts of the Burnsland website over the past two years. For 2024, the theme for most all of the posts was “Love One Another”. And for 2025, the theme has been “Blessings”. Where did these themes come from? And what do they mean?

If we love one another and realize that everything we have is a blessing from God, then we can be a blessing to others, too. It takes living life intentionally to do that, but it can be done!

They say that time flies, but how has it been over two years since our last episode?

Steve returns (don’t worry, Laura will be back soon) to give some tips for keeping time from getting away from you. How fitting, considering the time that has passed since the last episode. We all have the same amount of time in every day, but some seem to be better at managing it than others do.

Does your life seem out of control? Is time always getting away from you? Do you end each day feeling like you have not accomplished the important things? Listen in to the tips in this episode to see if they might help you get more out of your time.

It is okay to set priorities and to put them first, as long as your priorities are good. As you might guess from the long delay, this podcast has not always been a top priority. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Well hello there! Has it really been two months since our last podcast episode? Apparently, it has! Life just keeps rolling along, it seems. We have been having good days, but has there been a best day?

Anyway, here we are again, and we take some time to answer the question, “What is your best day ever?” Since we make up our own rules for these things, it could be a real day, more than one day, or even your idea of an ideal day. And that leads to another question, “What makes the best day ever?”

As you might guess, we give several examples of “best days”, since it is difficult to choose just one day as your best ever. And your ideas might be completely different from ours. That is what makes all of us unique, after all. Different people enjoy different things. You might not like exactly what we like. It is perfectly fine if your list differs from ours.

And what if your best day is someone else’s worst day? There is a very good chance of that happening. Or your worst day might be someone’s best day, too. It is all about perspective.

And here is a photo that Laura referred to, just so that you can see what we were talking about. And yes, this day is close to the top of my list.

Christmas time is here! So our latest podcast episode is all about Christmas! This continues our holiday theme after our Thanksgiving and Halloween episodes. Whatever will we talk about next time around? But that is getting ahead of ourselves.

In this episode, we talk about our favorite Christmas songs, our favorite Christmas memories, gifts we have received, and even our favorite Christmas movies. We even thought about singing some of our favorite Christmas songs, but we decided against it. See if some of our favorites are some of your favorites, too! And feel free to let us know what your favorites are. Because as with our discussions, there is no one right answer!

Christmas traditions are different for everyone. So if yours are not like ours, that is okay! It is always interesting to hear the different traditions, customs, and memories that people have about this holiday. Maybe you do things the way you do because of where you live, or because of how your family has done them, or just because it is what you like to do. Our traditions have changed over the years as our family has changed. It is great to be able to adapt to your circumstances, after all.

Our Holiday Extravaganza continues! After our last episode was all about Halloween, Episode 35 is all about Thanksgiving!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we reminisce about past Thanksgiving holidays. Traditions include watching the Macy’s parade, eating food with family, not having to go to work or school, putting up Christmas decorations, and more fun things. Everyone has different holiday traditions, and there is no one right way of doing things, of course. But these are some of the things we have done.

We also talk about what Thanksgiving makes us think of. Fall colors, movies, relaxing, and more. What do you associate with this time of year?

And then, we briefly talk about what we are thankful for. Or at least we try to keep it brief. Because if we gave the whole list, this podcast episode would be really, really long!

So as you enjoy the holiday with your loved ones, be sure to be thankful. And not just on one specific day, or even just in the month of November. But be thankful all year long!

Happy Halloween from the Burnsland Podcast!

Yes, Halloween has already come and gone for this year, but we recorded this episode on the evening of October 31. So even though you are listening to this episode after the actual holiday, that still counts as a Halloween episode, right? Nothing spooky here, just some good clean fun!

After starting off with some Halloween jokes which might make you laugh or might make you groan, Steve and Laura share some memories of past Halloweens, including those fun costumes that we used to wear and going trick or treating in the neighborhood. Do you remember costumes like the ones we used to wear?

Teenage years brought a couple of haunted house experiences, and then adulthood has brought Trunk or Treat at church events, along with taking Jaylin trick or treating, too. Things have changed a little through the years, and we talk about that, too.

After yet another lengthy break, the Burnsland Podcast returns once again! And this episode is all about exploring.

In our time away, we have been exploring, going to places such as Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Mammoth Spring State Park in Arkansas, and several places in Kansas, too. In this episode, we tell about some of the places we have been, why we were there in the first place, and what we did while we were there.

Sometimes we go somewhere with a distinct purpose of hiking or seeing the scenery. And sometimes we just happen to find interesting places near where we happen to be. But we usually have fun no matter where we are.

After a bit of a break (again), the Burnsland Podcast returns with something new! And there’s a change because the podcast has a new cohost. Now, instead of listening to Steve talk to himself, you can listen to Steve and Laura talk to each other. After all, a conversation is much better than a monologue.

Because this episode serves as something of a relaunch, this one is a bit of an introduction, just to make sure you know who you are listening to. We tell some things about ourselves individually, and then we tell about ourselves together. And we also tell some things about each other, too.

We are just getting started, at least as far as podcasting together goes. We have been talking to each other for a long time, after all. Anyway, an introduction is as good a place as any to start. Do you have questions or comments for a future episode? Just let us know.

Patience is turning into a lost art form. We are always in such a hurry to get everything immediately. We have been spoiled by fast food, video on demand, and same-day shipping. But life is better if you slow down a little, even if you have to wait for some things.

After all, good things are worth waiting for, as they say. I’m not exactly sure who said that originally, but I have not had the patience to sit down and look it up.
