What did you think of todays' episode?

Collaborating with my friend, LaToya, we discuss two racially motivated riots in the US--Wilmington Coup and Black Wall Street (Tulsa Riot)--and how they still have lasting impacts on what is happening in today's society in the US. The reason history is so important is because if we don't understand what has happened, we can't process current social situations and the climate of what is happening now. By examining how history has been taught in this country--either willfully leaving out information, or just not knowing things happened--we can understand the current climate better for all of humanity. 

While this is long, it is a tough conversation that needs to be had. It was a delight to have LaToya not only come on my podcast, but to share her own stories, including how all children need to make it home.

Our next Conspiracy Theory is about the addition of Fluoride into American drinking water during the 1950s and boy did some Americans come up with outlandish theories about what it was doing there--from Communist control, to forced medical help, it was a joy, a joy I tell you!, talking about this theory with Matt and how it's still alive and kicking. 
Just brush your teeth and drink some tap water. You'll be good. 

What did you think of todays' episode?

This isn't about fires, or holes. This is about the Bald Knobbers; a vigilante group in Missouri during the end of the 19th century. As touched on last week, there was lawlessness in the Midwest--specifically Kansas and Missouri. The Bald Knobbers were organized after 40 murders and no justice occurring in their area of the southeast area of Missouri near Branson. Led by a former Union soldier, they brought out Batman style justice. Did it end well? Depends on whose side you are on.
Fire in the Hole is a ride from Silver Dollar City, and thanks to a very WRONG person on the internet that said the ride was racist, we now have a podcast about the Bald Knobbers and how Silver Dollar City depicted them incorrectly, and how Trisha and I are going to write the screenplay for it--Matt Damon and Ben Affleck style. What did you think of todays' episode?

Maybe you don't know about this conspiracy theory because it's not very well known. If you don't know why your can of Coke says "Classic" on it, have we got a story for you on a marketing blunder! I talk with Matt, and my cat Arthur who constantly paws things (the thumps throughout the sound...thanks Arthur), about how the loss of the market share on soda caused Coca-Cola to revamp their taste, leading towards literal riots by Coke drinkers. Was this a miscalculated step to win some new drinkers, or was it all a conspiracy theory to drive up the demand for the classic taste?

What did you think of todays' episode?

The title may seem deceiving, but this is a GREAT lead up episode to next week's episode. After the Civil War, Americans focused on moving more out west from the east coast and cities that were in shambles after the war. With the Homestead Act, many Americans that did not fight for the Confederacy were able to receive 160 acres of surveyed government land, including area in the Midwest--including Kansas. With such huge growth in population, the law enforcement was not able to keep up. In this episode, I talk with my friend Anna about how two serial killer families show how the "wild west" wasn't just in the"west," but how vigilante justice occurred during the Reconstruction era. 
But this is mostly about serial killer families--the Bloody Benders, and the Kelly family. Not to ruin the episode, but the Sweeney Todd style deaths they enacted seemed to be all great until they each killed the wrong person.

On our first ever But Have You Heard About? Conspiracy Edition, we talk about the many conspiracy theories that are tied to the Denver International Airport. Masons, aliens, lizard people, and to top it all off--NAZIS! 

For only opening in 1995, it honestly has more theories than the excuses I have for lost homework in high school. 

What did you think of todays' episode?

Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, was more than just a mathematician. She was a "steampunk math goddess" of her day in early 19th century. My guest, and computer programmer, Becky and I talk about how not only her contributions to Babbage and his Analytical Engine. While the daughter of the famous poet Lord Byron, she made history in her own right; developing and able to explain the first ever programming code. Her notes upon notes upon notes for the Analytical Engine laid the foundation for many great mathematicians in the future, including Alan Turing, and earns her a spot in the accolades of history, and being a bad ass woman. 

What did you think of todays' episode?

But really, what do drugs have to do with it? A lot, honestly. Join as my guest Trisha and I talk about the origins of the war on marijuana, and how Harry J. Anslinger based the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and their drug laws on xenophobic and racist ideas. Especially the way he targeted Billie Holiday.

Another week, another podcast about history's little known facts. This week me and guest Brad talk about how sports impacted Britain's reach during imperialism and how they used sports to not only keep imperialism, but how those that were oppressed used sports as a way to stick it to the man!
