Butter Pecan Podcast

Bare with us as we experiment with recording remotely in times of COVID. Kelly and Darryl talk about the discrimination case against Coca-Cola in 1999-2000, and the actions that lead to this landmark ruling. Join us as we take the Pepsi challenge and wrap up our series on Coke.

In our third installment on Coca-Cola, we learn how the company ignored their black customers while Pepsi grew and sustained their base by appealing to this same group. Pepsi offered twice the amount of soda for the same price, created a black sales team, and black advertising team while Coca-Cola struggled with old traditions.

In our first "Just Gravy" bonus feature, we talk about Darryl's interview with Shauntrice Martin of Louisville's #FeedtheWest campaign, and Black Market.

We continue our story about Coca-Cola as we find out more about Asa Candler, his ties to Atlanta, and the 1906 race massacre.

Welcome to our first episode! We start with our series on Coca-Cola where it all began - the Civil War. Then we get down to business with a Green Tomato Pie recipe.

It started with a question: Is Butter Pecan ice cream a black thing? Join Kelly Nusz and Darryl Goodner as we investigate this question and the history of food and racism.
