As Jesus begins his public ministry, His message is often misunderstood, or outright rejected. In Msgr. Magee's homily, he tells us that Jesus did not meet the expectations of some of the people of his day. They had been waiting for a king who would wield great power. Upon hearing Jesus, some of the people were "filled with rage. How dare this nobody claim to be the one that Isaiah and all of the prophets had been talking about". What the people did not realize is that their expectations were too low. Jesus had so much more in store for them, and by extension, us, as long as we are open to his plan for us.  Jesus comes to release them from the oppression of sin, and wants us to open our eyes and ears to His message. Today we welcome Deacon Isaac Wahlmeier back to St. Frances Cabrini after spending the Christmas season with his family in Lincoln, Nebraska. In today's excellent homily, we hear of Christ performing one of His miracles at the wedding feast at Cana. His mother Mary, instructs the host to "do whatever He tells you to do", turning ordinary water into wine. An English poet once wrote these words about that normal water that sat in those jars at Cana..."the waters looked up and saw their creator, and at once, they blushed with love."The waters looked up and saw the face of Christ, and blushed with love."
