What does having a call on your life look like? The simple answer to this question is to follow the discussion between Nic Silvanie and Adnie Gaudin, Genesis 25:19-34

According to verywellfamily.com, Jacob means “supplanter,” which is often interpreted as someone who seizes, circumvents, or usurps. to deceive/cheat

According to Merriam-Webster, Supplanter- to supersede (another) especially by force or treachery

 The Beginning 

Gen 25:21  And Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife, because she was barren. And the LORD granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Gen 25:22  The children struggled together within her, and she said, “If it is thus, why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the LORD. 

• To inquire: to put a question : seek for information by questioning 
  • The Lord Answer
  • Gen 25:23  And the LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger  
  
  
• Two nations/brothers:
  • Jacob: The Israelites  Gen 25:27 Jacob was a quiet, plain, peaceful man dwelling in tents 
  • He could cook 
  • Rebekah loved Jacob 
  • Esau: The Edomites (red)- Gen 25:25. The first came out red, all his body like a hairy cloak, so they called his name Esau.

• Punishment does not feel good
  •  Earthly fathers do what they know how to do in disciplining us
  • Our punishment is not meant to be punishment, it is meant to teach us
  • When we are not living a holy life, we need to understand that God will not be close to us 
  
  
• Parental discipline is necessary
  • Parents discipline because it is necessary not because they hate us
  • God is not a masochist or a sadist He is a loving Father
  
  
• Watch how you treat others
  • Paul was a lover of Christ and understood the persecution

Jesus Ministry: Episode 3 

o Baptism-Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-23

• The Godhead was present at Jesus’ baptism
  • Jesus gets baptized and is confirmed by God and the Holy Spirit
  • Jesus was obedient in him getting baptized
  • Jesus gives us an example of what baptism is
  
  

o Wilderness-Matthew 4:11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13

• The Spirit leads Jesus into the Wilderness
• When we get saved there is always a wilderness period
• How we come to Christ is what matters most
• The Holy Spirit lead Jesus to the wilderness to be tested
• Test of provision: being asked to turn stones to bread
• Test of protection: being questioned about his deity and commit suicide
• Test of power: being offered the whole world, but to fall down and worship satan

o Selection of apostles/ disciples John 1:35-42 John 1:43-51; Luke 6:12-19

• Jesus chooses 12 to follow and do His will
• Healing (i.e., blind, sick, lame, demon possessed) Matthew 8:14-17 and performing miracles
•  Proclaiming the kingdom of God Matthew 4:23-25; Mark 1:35-39; Luke 4:42-44
•  Teaching- Sermon on the Mount/Parables (i.e., the sower and the seed, wheat and tares, mustard seed, leaven, treasure in a field)

Jesus 0 to 12 years old: Episode 2

o Angel appears to Mary-Luke 1:25

• Mary was a virgin who was betrothed to Joseph
  • Mary found favor with God
  • The timing of God was right on time in Mary carrying Him
  • Mary was impregnated by the Holy Spirit
  • God needed Mary in her most purest form
  
  

o Birth of Jesus-Matthew

• Jesus is born in a manger in Bethlehem
  • Mary and Joseph found no lodging and he was born in an unconventional way
  • Jesus was born into controversy
  
  

o Visit of the Magi

• The Magi (astrologers) seek the Messiah
  • They go to Herod and ask where the King of the Jews would be born
  • Herod tells them to go search for the child and come back and tell him
  • The Magi go and find the baby and worship Jesus
  • They opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold 
  
  

o Flight into Egypt

• An Angel comes to Joseph tells him to flee to Egypt
  • Joseph takes Mary and baby Jesus to Egypt because Herod was trying to kill Him
  
  

o 12-year-old Jesus in Jerusalem-Luke 2:41-52

• Jesus stay in Jerusalem to speak to the teachers
  • Jesus stays back to learn and grow in wisdom while speaking to the teaches
  • How do we leave Jesus behind when we come from worship service
  • Jesus was about his Father's business

Jesus & Prophecy: Episode 1

o Trinity: 1 God in 3 person- 1 John 5:7

• The Godhead three 
  • Father
  • Son
  • Holy Spirit
  
  
• Who Jesus was, still is and will always be is something we will alway try to wrap our brains around
  • We should not want to wrap our brains around who Jesus is
  • Our minds are meant to absorb but we live in a society that is electronic focused
  • Jesus is someone we can rely on
  • There are so many distractions
  
  

o Jesus is God. He is omnipresent, omniscient, one with God, eternal, etc

• The enemy tries to mask the name of Jesus
  • We have an issue and it is called sin
  • Jesus is God and us
  • Jesus is the artist of creation
  • 
    
  
  

o The Fall

• Adam was in fellowship with God
  • The devil deceived humanity
  • The disobedience of Adam and Eve brought death to the world
  • When we lack fellowship and relationship with God we begin to do our own thing
  
  

o Genesis 3:15 (proto-evangelium) good news or first gospel

• Noah found grace in the sight of God and was used to save humanity
  • The thoughts of man was evil continually
  
  

o Prophecy Exo 3:13-15; Deut 18:18; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; 53:1-14; 61:1; Micah 4:2

• Jesus was prophesied in the Old Testament
  • I AM WHO I AM (I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE)
  • Jesus is the Savior of all mankind
  
  

o Ultimate Reality: God is all powerful and sovereign God (personal and relational)

• Abraham found favor with God because his heart was different
  • We all are blessed because of God’s Sovereignty
