Called to Business

“You shall not steal” (Exodus 20:15)

Lets put aside the obvious stuff. What about downloading illegal music? Taking home stationary? Milking expenses? Declaring all taxes due, no shortcuts.

Then what about time, time with God taken by other things? If we wanted to think a little deeper we would all be challenged by areas of stealing. Will you take the time to allow God to show you your heart. You may be surprised.

Do we steal His resources and His time? We are only stewards after all. Are we sowing what He’s asking us to sow and only consuming that which is set apart to bless us?

God’s measure is absolute. Fortunately so His is grace mercy and forgiveness. Make any corrections you need to make and move on.

Quick Prayer. “Enlighten my mind to where I have robbed you or others Lord.” Amen

“But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’, ‘No’….” (Matthew 5:37)

There is power in simple truth. When you just walk in simple integrity. Doing what you say. A simple yes or a simple no. We often increase complexity in our answers or try to manipulate with a “little white lie”.

How would others view us if they believed we would always give a straight answer, no hidden agendas, just the truth. When we shared something about God, maybe they would believe that as well.

There is something elegant, honest and pure about simplicity. Keep it simple.

Quick Prayer. “My yes will be yes, so help me God.” Amen

“Give me wisdom and knowledge to rule them properly, for who is able to govern this great nation of Yours?” (2 Chronicles 1:10)

If you are a leader, you are going to need some things. How about an increase in wisdom and knowledge? You will find them in God, in His Word, and manifest in His Spirit.

He will equip you for what He has called you to. Anything else would be unreasonable, don’t you think? Ask Him for what you need, and watch Him provide.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with leadership aspirations. These desires may well be part of God enabling you to fulfill His purposes in you, and through you. We are co-labourers with God; what an honour!

However, if you are under the mistaken thought that you can do it without Him, please reconsider.

Quick Prayer. “May I have your wisdom Lord, I need it to do what you have called me to.” Amen

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations….” (Matthew 28:19)

This is the ultimate vision and the ultimate goal—pure, simple, and compelling. All our efforts, focus, and resources need to be subjugated to this clarion call.

Alignment to this vision unlocks all the power and resources of God. Why? Because this is His command to us. He came to seek and save the lost. When we disciple, we move a person from hearing the gospel to living a life that demonstrates true transformation. We multiply our impact as others come to a level of maturity that ensures they are capable of leading and discipling others.

What are we doing to impact our businesses for God? As we influence those around us, we will impact communities, cities, and ultimately nations. We are called to disciple nations!

Quick Prayer. “Let my life count and have an impact for you.” Amen

“Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh.” (1 Peter 2:18)

We all at some time have to report to someone harsh. Maybe it is a shareholder, director, other authority, financier, supplier, or customer. In the midst of our stakeholders and authority figures, there will be some harshness.

So what should be our response? Submission. Clear and simple. But let’s not misunderstand whatthat means. We should not be a doormat—Jesus was never a doormat—but we must take a submissive stance with a willingness to serve despite how it is received or perceived.

This is a tough call, but it’s God’s way. He will be with us all the way, equipping us when we have nothing to give. When we do it His way we can expect His results.

Quick Prayer. “Help me to bear the load when it gets heavy Lord.” Amen

“ …for the Son of Man has come to seek and save that which is lost.” (Luke 19:10)

What should our priority be? What is our highest imperative? What is God’s vision?

Our bottom line is profit or cash flow or a triple bottom-line for some progressive companies. God is vitally interested in bringing success, but He has an ultimate bottom line.

In the midst of your busy life, keep an eye out for an opportunity—a God-given opportunity to share a word, plant a thought, say a prayer, or reap a soul for Jesus. It is the true bottom line and should be our top of mind. The ones with eternal consequences are always wrought in the practical application of obedience and grace.

God is in the restoration business, and He will make us all restorers. Jesus came to heal and restore that which was damaged and lost. We are part of His ongoing work.

Quick Prayer. “Show me how to restore others to you Lord.” Amen
