As Jesus was preparing His Disciples to be the future leaders of His Church, He was also trying to tell them, and all of those around Him, who He was. The educated, religious Jews were so blinded by their own traditions and customs that they failed to "see" who it really was that was standing before them. They had the words of many Old Testament prophets that testified of His coming for centuries, yet they could not comprehend that this Jesus was healing and delivering could be and was, in fact, that very one and that He was here for their benefit.

The church is the body through which the head, which is Jesus Christ, manifests His love, mercy, grace, and compassion. Through the power of the One who initiated the Church, it is our mission and burden to add to the body and to nurture and grow the body. He left this responsibility in the hands of His disciples. That's us.
