This is a royal psalm. It is petition for the prosperity of the Lord's anointed. The superscription implies it was a prayer of Solomon, or possibly a prayer of David for his son, Solomon.--It is ultimately a Messianic psalm that shares the promises made to David and his descendants. While the immediate purpose was for blessings upon Solomon, ultimately only one -greater than Solomon- could fulfill the scope of the blessings described. The Messiah, Son of David -Jesus-, will fulfill these desires in His Millennial Kingdom.

One of the realities of life is that we never grow out of problems. This psalmist may have been one of the temple musicians. This psalm has phrases from many other psalms which tells us he was well versed in the playing of these psalms -v.22-.

The golden calf incident had left Moses exhausted and discouraged. Our Lord did not leave him comfortless. God spoke to Moses as His friend and assured him of His presence.

There are times when tensions are great and the breaking point or deadlines loom where we wonder if God is doing to answer our prayer in time.
