These past few chapters of 1 Samuel could be called a character study of Saul. Because this is the Word of God, this was recorded for us believers to show how typical the flesh/sin nature of any one person can behave. In this you will hear how King Saul is confronted by Samuel, yet remains in his sin and thus suffers the consequences.

This section of 1 Samuel reveals the heart of King Saul-his trying to control his own people by use of fleshly legalism or the fear tactics of a bully and insecure man. This tactic of manipulation of others, as you will see, results in only deepening the pit of sin into which Saul is burying himself.

Having done an excellent job in leadership in just the last chapter of 1 Samuel, now, in this chapter, King Saul of Israel shows his insecurity and then his pride which results in an on-going tragedy for Israel.

This resorting to situational ethics destroys families, and also nations. The application is obvious.

In this message we see just how personal God is to Israel. We see God's ongoing faithfulness and incredible forgiveness towards Israel. We see that this is how God deals with us: His love and His discipline. An excellent message to anyone who has been a child of God for a while or just starting out. Listen and learn!!

From a really bad beginnings of Saul's reign in the last chapter to this incredible change in Saul's leadership: all because God empowers him to do the right thing in the threat of war from one of Israel's neighbors. The end of this chapter is so so good! In this we can apply the fact that we can also see the victorious Hand of God in our own lives when we just surrender to do what He wants us to do.

You will see how this king whom Israel wanted in spite of God's plan-begins to reveal his real character from day one of his inauguration. Saul was appointed by God but he begins by behaving very inappropriately for a leader.

This chapter seems so simple-yet involved in this story is another example of how God controls all circumstances-back then for a nation- and its ordained King-to-be-Saul. This application for us is so personal on how God does lead us to what and where He wants us to be in our lives.

This chapter reveals a very sad decision made by Israel in which they choose to follow the World and its system of government and rejecting the system that God established for them. The many applications of this short chapter are truly amzing.

This chapter reveals how Israel repents of their old ways, and God then shows His favor (that He desires to show in our lives). You will see, as taught by Pastor Steve, this same repentance and it's benefits are applied to each one of us individually today.
