The purpose of Chronicles is to bring hope in the future Messiah who will come from David’s line. While the history of God’s people is marred, it does not lead to despair. Chronicles helps us to look to the King of Kings, trust in His word, seek Him with all our heart, and let Him fight our battles.

Blaise Pascal once wrote, “He that takes truth for his guide, and duty for his end, may safely trust God’s providence to lead him aright.” Abraham no doubt trusted God’s providence “to lead him aright” when he sent his servant Eliezer off to find Isaac a bride. Abraham will pass the test, and from observing his experience we will learn how we too can have faith that conquers mountains. George
