The benefit of the law, according to Paul, is that it does two things:  1st, it reveals the perfect holiness of God.  It lets us know the standard of righteousness that God’s righteousness requires. In short, it lets us know we can never achieve that standard… 2nd, the real purpose of the law is to show us just how short we fall.

1 Timothy 6:10 -- '10. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil...'  There is no sin you can think of that people won’t commit for money.  Loving money—not money itself (neutral)—is a root (not the) of all kinds of evil, all kinds of insanity…

This is a good example for us in every battle we fight, whether spiritual or carnal.  David announces to his enemies, in advance, who they are really fighting against.  When the enemy is attacking, let him know who it is he is fighting!  Let him know the Lord is in your corner, that God will be doing your fighting.  Just as you are no match for the enemies of your faith, they are no match for God…
