As our redemption draws near, we need to look up and to understand the times in which we live as various groups abuse authority and demand their rights. God looks for people who patiently look to him, always being an example. We may not see ourselves as leaders or overseers in the church, however for all of us, our lives are a testimony requiring faithful service so we might hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” In submitting to one another, we discover true humility.

This Christmas we invite you to Calvary Old Bridge for a special message taken from John 12:46 titled, “The Light of World”. Join us as we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus, who is the son of God, and the light of the whole world for mankind.

In this 12th chapter of Proverbs, we continue looking at the contrast between the righteous person and the one who lacks wisdom and insight. Our words can cause problems or can be a blessing when our tongue is under control. As we study, we are reminded why we need to seek out wise counsel; we yearn to be the kind of person who accepts rebuke while disciplining ourselves to watch our mouths. Personal examples from Pastor Lloyd are woven into this practical teaching series.

Can we actually be stronger in weakness and suffering? Jesus challenges our thinking about suffering knowing our Father is using all things for good to accomplish his perfect will. What will we sanctify (set apart) for God’s use? Will we exhibit hope to the doubters around us? Pastor Lloyd holds up numerous examples for our consideration in this message about arming ourselves for Godly living and suffering that we might make a difference in this world.

Peter was given a specific understanding from the Lord Jesus from which Pastor Lloyd wants us to learn: like Peter, we can grow closer to the Lord and overcome fear and doubt in the process. In this message, we learn what subjection looks like as modeled by Jesus unto the Father. We also look at marriage through the lens of subjection. Finally comes the admonition to be tender-hearted and merciful towards one another.

Whether we practice integrity and honesty, righteousness and blamelessness, or wickedness and ruthlessness, gossip and harsh words, Proverbs shows there will be rewards and punishment. We must be settled in our minds that some things are non-negotiable and pastor Lloyd uses various historical figures to illustrate this point.

Here, Peter brings to light that we are living stones, part of a spiritual house, fashioned and cut specifically for a unique purpose with Jesus as the cornerstone. God dwells not in brick and mortal buildings, but in us, living stones, precious and of great value. Peter appeals to the living stones of the church to glorify God, admitting our vulnerabilities, watching over the issues of our hearts. We can’t afford to not care about such things, living this new position out loud, practicing good while submitted to God’s will.
