In Capernaum, Jesus was teaching on the Sabbaths, and the crowds were astonished because He spoke with authority. Jesus also rebuked an unclean spirit, healing a man--and the report about Him spread throughout the region.

In this sermon we learn about Jesus' preaching ministry in Galilee and Nazareth and His fulfillment of Isaiah 61. Responding to His teaching, His own home crowd was "filled with wrath" because Jesus not only brought gracious word but words of truth concerning their spiritual state. As believers, we remember our spiritual condition before Christ saved us, and we can be thankful that He brings salvation through His finished work on the cross according to the Scriptures.

Have you ever been tempted to sin? In this sermon we learn how Satan tempts Jesus for forty days in the wilderness. Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, resists the Tempter with the Word of God. As believers, rather than following after experiences or practical advice, let's be Spirit-filled and in God's Word daily and follow Christ's example.

In this passage we see the Trinity present at the baptism of Jesus...He is praying, the heaven opens up, the Holy Spirit descends like a dove, and God the Father says, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased" (v. 22). We learn that the dove symbolizes the character of the Spirit, His holiness and sacrifice. We also learn about the genealogy of Jesus, tracing all the way back to Adam and back to God Himself.

John the son of Zacharias went all around the region of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins (v. 3; cf. Isaiah 40:3-5). He preached to the people about bearing fruits worthy of repentance and about the coming of the One, Jesus, the Son of God.

In this sermon we learn about the early life of Jesus as a Child and a Boy, growing in wisdom and stature with God and men. We see His direct connection with God when Mary and Joseph find Him in the temple and He says, "Did you not know that I must be about my Father's business?" (v. 49) ... This passage speaks about the importance of allowing God to be the ultimate authority and growing in the wisdom and knowledge of Christ.
