We will see Jesus continuing to tell them about how He will be betrayed, killed and then rise again. We will see how Jesus views the greatest and the least in His kingdom, and our attitude regarding this has to be one of humility.

We will look at the coming of Elijah in two different applications. We will also see how we need to be prepared when entering into spiritual warfare.

This particular Psalm is not specifically related to any specific event except that it was written about the time Saul was persecuting David. Evidently there were people in David’s circle who were giving him advice on what he should do regarding fleeing or staying put during Saul’s ongoing pursuit to kill him.

In chapter nine we will see the miraculous transfiguration and How Jesus is revealing more of His power.

"Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 6:11

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:1-2

This brings us to our teaching in Mark 8:34-38. In these verses, Jesus lays out what our role as believers is, and it is very clear.

In Psalm 10 we will address the why question.

We will see Jesus asking who men say He is, and who the disciples say He is. We will see that response from Peter and we will also see the battle to remain in the Spirit and not fall back into our fleshly mindsets.

Now up to this point, Jesus hasn’t really called them out on their lack of faith or how they are so short sighted, but as we will see in our last study, He speaks to them directly about this issue. He will also address the Pharisees when they come trying to test Him.

This Psalm’s title is “To the Chief Musician. To the tune of [a]“Death of the Son.” A Psalm of David.” Like chapter 8, some believe this Psalm is a specific tune called “Muth Labben” in Hebrew. Others believe it is referring to a specific instrument that it was played on. The specific part of this title “Death of the Son” is referring to the way the ancient Chaldee version reads: “Concerning the death of the Champion who went out between the camps.” So some believe this is referring to Goliath. Perhaps David wrote this Psalm remembering the victory over Goliath from the advantage of many years since that triumph. Whatever the case, this Psalm is a Psalm of praise and celebrates the goodness of God and His power over all nations.

We will see Jesus continuing His journey going into different regions. We will see Jesus continuing to pour out the power of healing from Himself with compassion towards all that come to Him. We will see how the more He tries to keep people to keep the miracles quiet, they just cannot do it and we will also see the disciples once again doubt Him when it comes to His power regarding feeding the crowd.
