There was disappointment in what some thought Jesus was going to do for them. Disappointment makes the truth seem like an idle tale. Just because it seems like an idle tale doesn’t mean it isn’t true. In this script (1) Jesus reveals Himself to individuals; (2) Jesus draws the attention to scripture (Hope = expectation as promised in scripture); (3) Jesus shows the source of their disappointment (vss 36-43) ... the Doubt in their Hearts.

God compares His relationship with His church as a man with his wife. God gave John a message to the churches. It’s easy to get yourself sidetracked by getting yourself busy with doing things. Just as a husband can get busy and ignore his wife, we can get busy and lose track of our relationship with God. Don’t let all the good stuff you do leave you lacking in the real relationship you need to have with God.

In understanding "Bible Culture" one must not use the culture of the natural world. The Bible will teach us ITS value system. Paul wrote this part of the letter to correct a dysfunction in the Corinthian church. In that culture, women were to cover their heads and men not, when prophesying or praying in public.
