In this teaching from 1 Peter 2, we discover that maturing in Christ requires us to deliberately put off the attitudes and behaviors that hinder genuine love — malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander — and intentionally pursue Christ the way a newborn craves milk, not just gathering information about Him but experiencing Him fully through obedience, worship, prayer, and community.

Romans 12 calls believers to respond to the mercy of God by surrendering their whole lives to Him as living sacrifices. Rather than allowing the world to shape us, we are to be transformed from the inside out as God renews our minds, producing humility and a new understanding of ourselves. That transformed life expresses itself practically as each believer faithfully uses the gifts God has graciously given to serve the body of Christ.

In this teaching from 1 Peter 1, Peter calls us to an alert and intentional faith where we choose obedience over feelings, living as holy children of a holy Father, and engaging the world as salt and light while remembering this is not our final home. This kind of life does not happen by accident; it happens on purpose. Everything it requires flows from this reality: We have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ and born again through a seed that will never wither, fade, or pass away.

Romans 11:15–36 declares that God has not abandoned Israel, but remains faithful to His promises and purposes, including a future work of salvation among Israel. Gentile believers, having been graciously grafted into God’s blessings, must therefore reject spiritual pride, continue in faith, and marvel that both Jew and Gentile stand entirely upon the mercy of God. When Paul reaches the limits of human understanding concerning God’s redemptive plan, he does not end in speculation but in worship: “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

Join us this weekend as we begin our new series in 1 Peter — Faith in the Fire. Peter was writing to believers who were being scattered, slandered, and brutally persecuted for their faith. His response to their suffering was not a survival strategy but a declaration of identity. Before addressing what they were walking through, he established who they were — chosen, sanctified, covered by Christ's blood, and heirs of an inheritance no fire can touch.

We will discover together that until we are anchored in who we are in Christ rather than what we are walking through in the world our souls will never be truly settled.

Romans 11:1–14 declares that God has not rejected Israel: Paul himself and the Jewish remnant demonstrate that God's saving work continues, entirely on the basis of grace rather than works. Israel's present unbelief is real and serious, but it is neither total nor final; God has even used Israel's stumbling to bring salvation to the Gentiles while continuing His purposes for Israel. Therefore, God's people should trust His faithfulness, rest in His grace, respond to His truth, and live such Christ-filled lives that others become spiritually thirsty for what they see in us.

In James 5, we are encouraged to walk in integrity by letting our yes be yes and our no be no. As we talk about prayer and healing, we learn that being right with God spiritually takes priority over our physical needs. We will also learn that unconfessed sin is a weight the soul was never designed to carry — a truth both Scripture and modern science powerfully confirm. Last, the greatest response to someone who has wandered from the faith is not questioning whether they were saved or not but being willing to pray for and pursue them while trusting God with the results.

Romans 10:9–21 teaches that salvation is a free gift received through faith in Jesus Christ, not something earned through works or religious effort, and that this offer is available to everyone. The Great Commission calls every believer—not just pastors or missionaries—to share the Gospel through both their words and their lives, trusting the Holy Spirit to provide opportunities. Paul also reminds us not to prejudge who will respond, because while many Israelites rejected Jesus, Gentiles believed, fulfilling Old Testament prophecy and demonstrating God’s desire for all people to hear and receive the Good News.

In Vindication or Condemnation?, we examine James 5 and discover that injustice always reaches the ears of the Lord — and those who exploit the vulnerable while ignoring God are fattening themselves for a condemnation they cannot escape. But for those patiently trusting God through injustice and suffering — like the farmer, the prophets, and Job — the greatest news awaits: because of Christ's death and resurrection, the condemnation we all deserve has been removed and replaced with the vindication only Jesus could provide.
