Paul shows that God's promises to Israel have not failed because throughout Israel's history God has always preserved a believing remnant while extending His mercy according to His sovereign plan. Israel's greatest failure was not a lack of religious zeal but seeking righteousness through works instead of receiving God's righteousness by faith in Christ. Salvation is available to everyone who believes in the risen Lord Jesus, confessing Him openly as Lord and trusting Him with the heart.

In this teaching from James 4, we discover that slander, arrogant planning, and the modern idea of manifesting all share the same root problem — climbing into God's seat and claiming an authority that belongs to Him alone. The cure is humble surrender — bringing every request to God's feet, trusting His sovereignty, and choosing obedience over defiance.

In James 4, we discover that the conflicts and divisions in our relationships are rooted in the unchecked desires battling within our own hearts. These desires, when left unchecked, lead to destruction. James challenges us to examine not just what we ask God for, but why we are asking We learn that selfish motives behind our prayers block God's answers and reveal a heart not yet surrendered to Him. The cure is humility, submitting ourselves to God, resisting the enemy, and letting Him search and align our hearts with His so that His grace can do what our willpower never could.

This week, we transition from what we say to how we live. James speaks of two kinds of wisdom that will inevitably impact the steps that we take. Will we live according to wisdom from above or settle for the wisdom of the world?

In this teaching from James 3, we discover that our words are far more powerful than we realize. The tongue reveals the condition of our hearts, shapes the direction of our lives, and has the power to bring either life or destruction. Through the Holy Spirit, God transforms our hearts so our speech increasingly reflects Christ.

Romans 8:26–39 teaches that the Holy Spirit strengthens believers in their weakness, especially when they do not know how to pray. God sovereignly works every circumstance to accomplish His purpose of conforming His people to Christ, and He faithfully completes the salvation He began. Because God has given His Son for us, nothing in all creation can separate believers from His love, making them more than conquerors through Christ.

Paul reminds believers that through the Holy Spirit we have become God's beloved children, enjoying both the assurance of our salvation and the privilege of calling God our Father. Although God's children still experience suffering in a fallen world, those present trials cannot compare with the eternal glory that awaits us. Both believers and creation eagerly anticipate the day when Christ returns, our bodies are redeemed, and God's restoration is fully revealed.

In Faith: Dead or Alive, we examine James 2:14–26 and confront two dangerous extremes that have always threatened the church — the belief that we must earn God's approval through our works, and the belief that faith requires nothing of us at all. Through the examples of Abraham and Rahab, James makes the case that genuine faith is never passive — real faith always produces action, and it's that action which proves our faith is truly alive.
