In this teaching from James 2, we discover that favoritism isn't just a social problem — it's a theological one, because it misrepresents the heart of a God who declares through the cross that every person is equally valuable and cost the same price. The church can either confirm the world's broken value system or boldly contradict it by living out the royal law — loving our neighbor as ourselves.

James teaches that God uses trials to mature believers, but temptations arise from sinful desires and must be rejected rather than excused. Because God is unchangingly good and has made us His children, we are called to receive His Word with humility and respond with obedience. Genuine faith is demonstrated through controlled speech, compassionate service, personal holiness, and a life that consistently does what God's Word says.

Romans 8 begins with the glorious declaration that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because Christ has fully satisfied God's justice on their behalf. What the law could never accomplish because of human weakness, God accomplished through the death of His Son and the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, believers are called to set their minds on the things of the Spirit, living from their new identity in Christ rather than being ruled by the flesh.

Trials are a guarantee. Joy is a choice. In the first message of our James series, we explore what it actually looks like when real faith collides with real life. From perseverance to wisdom to God's upside-down Kingdom, James doesn't waste a word.

Romans 7 reveals that God's Law is holy, righteous, and good, but it cannot make us righteous because sin uses the Law to expose the corruption already present within us. Even mature believers experience an ongoing conflict between their desire to obey God and the reality of indwelling sin, proving that human effort alone cannot produce holiness. The answer is not greater self-discipline or legalism, but looking outside ourselves to Jesus Christ, who alone delivers us from the power and misery of sin.

2 Corinthians 13 urges believers to honestly examine their faith, not relying on outward actions or heritage but on a genuine relationship with Christ that produces ongoing transformation, love, and obedience. This teaching emphasizes that spiritual authority, correction, and unity within the church are designed to build us up in maturity, and that intentional self-examination based on God’s Word is essential for assurance of salvation and spiritual growth.

Romans 7:1–8 teaches that believers are no longer under the law as a means of righteousness because through Christ they have died to the law and now belong to Him. Paul explains that the law is not sinful; rather, it reveals sin and exposes the rebellion already present in the human heart. True spiritual fruit is not produced by striving to keep rules, but by abiding in Christ and living in the power of the Holy Spirit.

In Love Without a Receipt, we explore Paul's selfless love for the Corinthian church — a love that gave everything and expected nothing in return, even when it went unappreciated. Through Paul's example we discover that mature love has two priorities: the glory of God and the good of the person, and that loving people well sometimes means offering correction they may not receive well in the moment. We also examine what true grace looks like — not a covering that enables us to stay comfortable in sin, but the power of God that empowers us to walk in real victory over it.
