We can't give what we don't have but with the Spirit of God within us, we have more than we know. When we give what we have, our broken places become bookmarks for God's glory.
Christmas came after centuries of lament. Christ was born into a time of great sorrow and darkness. Christmas is a reminder of hope, but let's not forget we still live in a time of lament. Hope is no stranger to grief.
What would it mean to you to know that God sees you, he finds value in you, and he has something important for you to do with your life? God has hope for you.
Christ's family tree is a reminder of the hope of Christmas. Hope for failures, sinners, abusers, and those in the margins of love. God works through the most improbable people for the most unlovable people.
We need to ask God for a fresh revelation of his glory that leads to an embrace of the utter desperation of our condition and causes us to surrender to the hopeful anticipation of his calling.
