God loves the church and persecution often hits the leaders first. As the leadership goes so goes the church. So Peter outlines eldership for the protection and flourishing of the church in their care.

When God is our dwelling place, we will know profound and joyful security even as we face trials and opposition.

Jesus came to earth to proclaim good news. He was the first great evangel. We, being redeemed by Christ, are evangels in kind. Oh that we would be able to have someone say of us, "How lovely are the feet of him who brought me good news".

Christians have a great salvation, but live as exiles in a godless world. This tension can be distracting, so Peter exhorts Christians to a fixed hope and shows the place of the mind in it all.
