Last week we started looking at a list of things Paul and his companions “did” while they were in Thessalonica in order to prove their love and demonstrate their sincerity. And why did Paul feel the need to do this? Because as we noted some were falsely accusing him of only showing affection because he wanted something from them. So Paul felt the need to not only squelch such an accusation but to remind them of how he conducted himself when he was among them.

As the Lord calls Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, we are confronted with the incredible faith of Abraham in the midst of an incredible test. Yet as we see Abraham display this great faith we are reminded that it is not a faith that he developed overnight.

As we get into chapter 2 we now see Paul in a different role. Not simply as a pastor planting a new church, but now as a godly leader overseeing the people as a father or mother raising her children. And because the Thessalonians were baby Christians that’s exactly what they needed.

If the enemy of our soul can't stop God's work in our life, we can be sure that he will be right there trying to keep us from enjoying the blessing of it. This is exactly what we see in Abraham and Sarah's life in the fulfillment of God's promise in the birth of Isaac.

As believers when we think of Jesus, the first thing we think of is that He is the One Who saved us from our sin and gave us heaven. And rightly so. But how often do we meditate on the fact that the Bible says He also saved us from the judgment and wrath to come in the last days AND for eternity?

As we find Abraham falling once again in the same area of fear, we are confronted with the sinful patterns we find in our own lives. But more importantly, we are confronted with the continued faithfulness of our God in the midst of these patterns.
