We have looked at Gideon from many different angles over the last few weeks in his journey with God, and today we see his failure at the end of his life. One of the greatest dangers in every believer’s life is how he or she finishes out their life with the Lord. We see how Gideon’s compromise took him down a path that slowly caused him to fall into sin. Pastor Mark uses the example of Gideon, as well as others in the Bible, to teach us to finish strong in our walk with the Lord. Especially as we near the end of our life here on earth.

We don’t have to be great warriors or mighty and awesome in appearance. All the Lord asks is that we speak the truth clearly, be broken, shine God’s light, and then simply stand.

Though the Scripture holds up Abraham as our example of faith to follow, we find that Abraham got off to a rough start. His faith was far from perfect and it took a long time to mature. As we see Abraham's initial call to follow the Lord we see a man much like ourselves. A man whose faith was mixed with fear and insecurity, but at the same time we see that we have a God who is faithful and constant through it all.

Peter gives us another handle that we need to keep a tight grip on if we are going to stand strong and not be knocked off course in this world and that is the Word of God. Peter lays out for us the necessity of God's Word in our lives and its power to grow us and bring us to Jesus in order that we might be a witness of His character in this world.
