Peter gives us another handle that we need to keep a tight grip on if we are going to stand strong and not be knocked off course in this world and that is the Word of God. Peter lays out for us the necessity of God's Word in our lives and its power to grow us and bring us to Jesus in order that we might be a witness of His character in this world.

Though the Scripture holds up Abraham as our example of faith to follow, we find that Abraham got off to a rough start. His faith was far from perfect and it took a long time to mature. As we see Abraham's initial call to follow the Lord we see a man much like ourselves. A man whose faith was mixed with fear and insecurity, but at the same time we see that we have a God who is faithful and constant through it all.

Today we will see Gideon obey the Lord’s commands as he assembles God’s army. Despite the ever-growing odds against him, Gideon puts his trust in the Lord to give the victory. God is willing to give you victory over whatever you might be facing, no matter how insurmountable it may appear. All we need to do is obey and allow God to fight the battle.

In the passage today we will see God raise up another deliverer or “judge” to once again lead them into victory and freedom from their enemies. And once again we will see the incredible grace and patience of God with His people.

Though it is easy in the midst of the pushback we experience as pilgrims in this world to conform our behavior to the ways of this world, Peter encourages us to remain set apart. Peter reminds us that we are called to holiness. Based on the nature of God, the nature of our redemption and the nature of the Word holiness is to be a primary mark of our lives.
