Once again, today’s message contains an uncannily timely warning for our nation! While the Lord never approves of evil, sometimes He will allow something shocking to occur as a wake-up call to those whose hearts are too hard to hear Him in any other way. The grisly actions the Levite took after the abuse and violent death of his concubine were intended to shock the complacent Israelites out of their numbness to sin, and into repentance! May we believers always have hearts that are soft and sensitive to the Spirit, so that we can be a beacon of holy grace to reveal the light of the Lord to those in darkness!

Even in Jesus' final hours, we see the great grace, patience, and concern for He has for His disciples in the midst of their continued failures, rejection and spiritual weakness.

We welcome special guest teacher Pastor Allen Rigg, who taught that the redemption experienced by Rahab (in Joshua chapter 2) is offered to all by our amazing Savior! While Rahab was ensnared in a shameful occupation, the Lord gave her grace and courage to help rescue the Israelite spies -- and she turned to the true God in faith! He then removed the label of shame affixed to her by her sin -- and granted her the honor of being a forbear of the Messiah! The lesson for us: if we are willing to receive God's forgiveness freely, let go of our sinful past, and let Jesus change us, He can do remarkable things with our lives that we couldn't have imagined!

We celebrate our national independence and the blessing of freedom every July 4th. As Americans, we also recognize there is a downside to freedom. Even as freedom creates the opportunity to do right, it also creates the opportunity to do wrong. This is what we will see today with the children of Israel.

As Jesus approaches the end of His life on this earth, we find Him at a meal with His disciples that He declares He has longed with great desire to eat. A meal that has nothing to do with the taste of the food or the place it was served, but with the meaning of His whole ministry.
