Hey and welcome to the Campfire Coffee Podcast. I am your host a Allison Towner. On this episode we chat with a badass momma who does it all. Sarah is a wife, a mom to a toddler, blogger for Trail Mothers, ambassador for Adventure Mommas, and spreads the great message in protecting our public lands. We had such an awesome conversation. Sarah is very open about the fact that she struggled with infertility. The story she tells is a truth of perseverance, struggle, and ups and downs of the whole process. I am thankful she was willing to share this story as I feel many women don’t know the process and struggles that go along with infertility and eventually getting pregnant. I know I was more informed by the end of our conversation. Take a listen and I know your going to enjoy this episode.

What a lovely interview with a family known as the Sunshine State Seekers. This active family of 4 is hitting the trails most weekends. They have adorable trail names and go by Water Bear, Honey Bee, Lyonia, and Flutterbye. They are members of the Florida Trail Association and have been named for 2019 Groundskeepers for Granite Gear. They actively pick up trash on the trails and have recovered many interesting things. Honey Bee told us they regularly find flip flops on the trail.Water Bear and Honey Bee have been named Trailmasters of the Florida State Forest Trailwalker Program. I give this family lots of credit going out in the heat to help maintain trails. Honey Bee tells us planning is critical when taking the kids along and regular stops and breaks to have water and snacks. To keep their kids engaged on the trail, they recently picked out a camera to bring along to take pictures. Keeping kids engaged on a trail is a great way for them to love hiking without realizing they are doing a lot. Being in Florida there is a lot of animals to be aware of. Many alligators, snakes, and other reptiles and prove to be a wonderful siting or a dangerous one. Lyonia has pointed out several snakes including a rattlesnake on their trail adventures. Children can be a great lookout for animals as their point of view is lower. There have been several times my own daughter has pointed out animals I would have never seen. From hiking to camping to kayaking down the springs, this family is what outdoor life is all about.
We hope to hear more from this family in the future. They were a pleasure to chat with and the girls were really into telling their story. Take a listen on the podcast and you won’t be disappointed.

On this episode, we interview blogger Emily on her adventures with her daughter Finley. What a lovely duo to see on the trail. Emily and her family live out near the mountain by Asheville, NC. We immediately hit it off when she told us about them previously owning a brewery. I thought, a hiker, camper, loves nature, and owned a brewery…this family is my kind of people. After having Finely, Emily was looking for an outlet to get outside with her daughter. Most first time moms experience the blues when been cooped up inside with a baby. So she choose to start going on regular hikes to not only get the breath of fresh air but to get Finley out in nature. Emily started a blog to track, not only her adventures with Finely, but to also review the hikes and tell you about them. Whether they are family friendly, like is there cell phone service in case of an emergency, and other important facts, to know before beginning the hike, especially if your going solo. I love that she takes these adventures and shows her daughter what beauty nature gives us. She has some future travels to Big Bend National Park in Texas and to go to Ireland. I look forward to hearing more about their adventures and be sure that they will be back on the podcast.

To finish up our series on Scouting, Jenny and Allison interview Ben (Allison’s husband) on Boy Scouts. He grew up in scouting and it has truly impacted his life. He clarifies some of the information from the last episode that we spoke about.
I think we can all agree that both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have a great impact on children and create a wonderful sense of community. Whether you do on or the other or non at all, getting outside and exploring nature is the best teacher, medicine, and healer.

On this episode we interview a good friend of ours, Madeline, who currently has two girls enrolled in a local Cub Scout Pack. This is the second episode in our scouting series. This is a new concept of allowing girls into Boy Scouts. We found it insightful and encouraging for girls.

Note: Ben (Allison’s husband and editor of the podcast) did find a few flaws in our podcast but he is looking to clarify that in our next podcast. Which we will interview him about Boy Scouts and growing up in scouting. Look forward to that very soon.
