David, the sinner, was still a man after God’s own heart. Why? Because despite his

sin, David was a repenter. David saw, owned, mourned over, and turned from his sin. This

week, we learn what repentance of looks like and how to repent of our own sin.

But even in the depths and depravity of his sin, he finds grace. And in David’s repentance, David finds redemption. Because Jesus became sin, who knew no sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God.

David was a dad. The Scriptures name 19 sons, 1 daughter, and 1 child who died in infancy. These 21 children came from his eight named wives, not to mention his unnamed wives and concubines. Most of David’s relationships with his children are awful, but at the end of his life he does the right thing. David wasn’t perfect, he definitely wasn’t a perfect Father. But Jesus is the perfect Son, who reconciles us to the perfect Father.

David was a warrior. He won many battles and led Israel to a time of peace. Most notably David was victorious against Goliath. David won many battles here on earth, but Jesus won the battle in the grave and is the victor we need in life.
