Nicole Friesen, a 28-year-old woman, has been battling a rare condition called Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS) for over a year. This condition, along with three other rare syndromes, has made it impossible for her to digest food, leading to severe weight loss. Despite multiple specialists and tests, doctors in Canada couldnt provide answers. In a desperate bid for help, Nicole and her husband traveled to Spain, where she was diagnosed with SMAS, Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome, Nutcracker Syndrome, and May Thurner Syndrome. She is now scheduled for a specialized surgery in Virginia, the Alvear method, which is not available in Canada. The total cost for the surgery, travel, and other medical expenses is estimated at sixty thousand dollars. Nicole remains hopeful that this surgery will restore her ability to eat normally.
