In 2006, a poorly written fanfiction with odd grammar and a confusingly unreadable plot captured the attention of the entire Harry Potter fandom. 'My Immortal' garnered good and bad recognition, both from the story itself, but also from the author notes author Tara Gilesbie left for her readers. People all over the internet discussed and analyzed this fic in a way no other fanfiction had before. Was is the quintessential badfic? Was it a teenage girl's cry for attention from strangers online? Just as soon as these questions got to big to be unanswered, 'My Immortal' and its author disappeared from the internet. Over the course of ten years, the fandom searched wide and far for Tara and eliminated individuals who tried to assert authorship over the fic. After dozens of fakes and years of dead leads, hopes ran dry and people moved on. Until one last person shined a spotlight on herself claiming to have authored 'My Immortal' while juggling foster care, discovering her sexuality and searching for her long-lost brother. Now only two questions remained, was Rose Christo really the author of 'My Immortal' and why did it take this long to come forward?
