Pastor Mike Baumgartner uses a 3 metre ladder to illustrate man's futile attempts to reach God. He uses the same ladder to show that Jesus came down from heaven to our level in order to bring us up.Many religions have been invented to satisfy man's desire to reach God. Some say that these religions provide different paths that lead to the same place. All our striving along these paths is as filthy rags to God. Some of things we do along the way can have merit but they do not make us righteous. We may strive to change for the better but all we achieve is a modification. All our busy rushing around with programs and processes can end in nothing if we miss hearing from God and allowing God to build our relationship with him. The message Pastor Jon was getting was that we've lost the art of contemplation.How do we regain the lost art of contemplation in our lives? There is no formula because contemplation involves a focus on God and freedom from distractions. To gain justification for what we believe. Terrorists serve out of conviction.Compelled by love.True service is being compelled by love. Serving is the way of something not the way to something. Service is the result of an earnest pursuit after God.How do we recognise this compelling of Christ?There is a fullness of the Holy Spirit.The clarity of godly wisdom.The steadfast conviction of faith. Faith will always see the miracle in the midst of the storm.There is an overwhelming expression of God's love and grace for the situation. Mike also warns that seemingly small things can damage potentially great things unless treated appropriately.Small things can bring mighty things down. We need to take ownership of our choices.There is a good type of fear that keeps us away from the places that we should avoid.Something small like a seed can grow into something powerful. Only seed that is sown gets to grow. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish. The DNA of destiny is inside of the seed. God has put his DNA inside you. A small seed can grow into a significant tree that houses many birds yet the greatest threat to the seed is birds.God's gift to us is our potential, the way we use that potential is our gift to God.
